Anyone dig him?
I saw him live last year and he is an amazing performer.
Some of his albums might suffer a bit from "over production" but he's a wonderful songwriter. And his songwriting seems unique in the way it deals with the problems and downsides of constructed masculine identities. I haven't anyone else sing about similar topics in such a convincing way.

I like a lot of his stuff -- Night Lilies is one of my favourite songs of all time. I agree that some of the albums do seem over-produced, and he's almost too prolific for his own good sometimes. :) But wow, what a voice -- a friend described it as the kind to make you stop and turn round if you're walking in the other direction, and I know what she means.

I liked his collaboration with crime fic writer Ian Rankin. And I listened to the new album during a long car journey at the weekend. First thought were that it *was* over-produced.

Can't believe there's only you and me in the Leven camp!
You're right on about the voice. I was just listening to his cover of Madame George and he must be the only one who can get away with covering this song.

Isn't his album with Ian Rankin a live recording?

  We have good taste!

Yes, live recording and a mix of Rankin reading his work and Leven doing the songs.
