Break a leg! (which might be a wrong word choice that has probably been used a million times by now)

As a matter of fact, Shane's first comment after the fall, when he returned to his mic in Boston after "Repeal..." was "You were supposed have wished me to break a leg. Tttsscccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhh!"

Shane's Leg

Post Fri Apr 06, 2007 3:50 pm

I haven't seen this elsewhere, so I am wondering if there has been any
word on Shane's recovery from his injury. Hope he is doing well.

Yes, it would be nice to get an update at some point. Funny thing is that after March 17th, when I was telling people who don't really know that much about the band, except that the lead singer's name is Shane and has a bit of a reputation, they said so did he make it through the show ok? -- to which I had to reply that Shane was wheeled up to the mic in a wheelchair. And at that, they would just look at my in disbelief, as if to say that people don't perform in a wheelchair! Cheers for the effort. :D
What kind of fuckery is this?

I think he deserves a ton of credit for that, especially after all the flak he got for missing the one show. Granted maybe he should've let someone know a little sooner, but who else would do a show from a wheelchair like that?

Robert Wyatt had a great stage presence. All though not seen to good enough for Top Of The Pops . He "..put out a single, a cover version of "I'm a Believer", which hit number 29 in the UK chart. There were strong arguments with the producer of Top of the Pops surrounding his performance of "I'm a Believer," on the grounds that his wheelchair-bound appearance 'was not suitable for family viewing', the producer wanting Wyatt to appear on a normal chair. Wyatt won the day and 'lost his rag but not the wheel chair', but gave a performance that could be described as disgruntled...."

Robert Wyatt ...

Robert Wyatt's great, and his performance of Shipbuilding is brilliant. Thanks for the links, RR.

Another who performs mostly from a wheelchair these days is John Martyn. Great live.

Thanks for the links, Roddy. Wyatt's version is easily the best of the ones around. He's had some interesting collaborations in the past -- I always rather liked the one with Ultramarine.

I think Shane missed a great chance of performing in a rocking chair .
