Bruce Springsteen

I went out and bought it today and now know how it sounds. I'm not sure about it but Mrs s described it as "a racket".

I bought it yesterday for Mrs. Fintan for Mothers' Day... she's a keen The Boss fan. Looking forward to hearing it on Sunday...

thats in england right? i thought i was going senile there cos i def remember ringing my mum to wish her a happy mothers day. i keep forgetting fintan lives on another planet :wink:

Yep, in Britain Mother's Day is always kept on the fourth Sunday of Lent. In some other parts of the world (including the US and Australia, obviously), it's the second Sunday in May.

Just wondering what Pogues fans think of Bruce Springsteen's "American Land"? I'm a big fan of both Bruce and the Pogues. "American Land" sounds to have been quite inspired by the Pogues. I'd love to hear them do it.

It is a great song. I went to see the Boss & the Seeger Sessions band last year in the Point. From memory there were 14/15 musicans on the stage and it was a great gig. Bit like a pogues gig, full of energy, great songs, great playing.

Just listening to the album again now....funny how you come back to things.

I saw them at the NEC in Birmingham later in the tour - I think I counted 17 musicians on stage most of the time, and liked the way they all took their moment centre stage at some point during the gig. The NEC's not the greatest venue for atmosphere, and the crowd was a bit slow at first, but Bruce got them going by the end. And yeah, I'd agree, the gig was almost Pogues-ish at times. Managed to download the gig from somewhere, and it's about time it got another listen.

That was my first thought, too. I eagerly grabbed the booklet to find out who had borrowed the tune from whom. But opposed to a couple of other songs where Shane has borrowed a tune or two from other songs, this time Bruce seemed to have borrowed from Shane.

But all in all it´s my favourite album 2006 - and I love "Old Dan Tucker". Does anyone probably know more verses than those four ? Sometimes folksongs tend to have lots of lyrics ...
