I can only assume the mick in question is Mick O'connell the former accordion player for the Popes.

If I am correct then I would like to say hello Mick. Meeting Yourself and Tommy at a concert that Shane never showed up too in Pittsburgh in March of 2001 was the high light of my evening and I still remember it fondly till this day.

That would be Mick, who could be bothered to turn up to the funeral unlike Danny. Danny can say what he wants...

It is outrageous that this thread, begun to honour and lament a lovely man and a fine musician, should have descended into this bitter personal vendetta. Please stop now.

I don't always agree with Philip Chevron on everything - even though he is a musical hero of mine - but his last post just made me want to say HEAR HEAR!
I am a friend of Danny Heatley and I can assure you he has personal responsibilities which meant he could NOT attend Tommy's funeral. Also, Dan was extremely sad that he couldn't be there. It had nothing to do with anyone else. It is PATHETIC that some people would stoop so low during what has been a very difficult time for many people who were close to The Beast.
Let Tommy Rest in Peace.

Well I geussed the wrong Mick so please forgive me, not for the wrong Mick, but for not including my Mother who also got to meet Mick O'Connell and Tommy and she as well remembers the nite fondly. She was given free Guinness Draught from the bands personal stash when the venue had sold out of Guinness. By the way the venue only had Guinness Stout. They also ran out of Irish whiskey. Shortly after thay had "run out" of the preferred booze and beer the venue announced the show was cancelled and a near full scale riot broke out. My Mother was ushered to safety behind the merchandise table as various bottles and insults were hurled about the venue. I believe at that point Tommy after having played a number with the shitty opening band went outside to sooth the crowd. Meanwhile myself, my Mom, the merch guy from Limerick, and Mick took a picture behind the merch table. We still have it in our family photo album!

When I read that piece in the paper last week I just posted it here because.....well, I don't know really. What I do know is that it was a huge mistake on my part and I now greatly regret doing so. I never imagined that it would start a mud slinging match and distract from the whole essence of the thread which was to honour a very special man.

I would appreciate it if you could either remove my original post or remove my name from the post as I just want to get as far away from it as possible.

Once again, I would just like to say how sorry I am for posting it.

Alan, no need to feel sorry for quoting a newspaper article - some reviews posted to the "Media" section caused certain stir as well. It's a pity what kind of discussion the article provoked - but those who contributed with their "priceless" slagging should feel ashamed, not the one who only copied and pasted something from newspaper.
