Allow me to point out a few things that some of you'se may not know....
First, Shane doesnt "do" funerals (did not go to Davey Jordan's, Joe Strummer's, Robbie O'Neills's, or the handful of others in his orbit who seem to pass on with such regularity). The only reason he even went to Big Charlie's was because a few of Charlie's Scottish mates basically threatened him with a hiding if he didn't show up to pay his respects to Charlie's Ma. Shane being far less brave than he lets on, duly showed up. He is a sefish child, and anyone on this Board who knows him and would argue with that comment is either a thick culchie or has his wages paid directly or indirectly by Shane's talents (or both). Shane in many ways has the emotional range and constitution of a 12 year old - his development was stunted somewhere along the way, and the hangers-on and other wankers who enable it ought to be ashamed. The truth is, Tommy was a bloody fantastic musician and a cracking good bloke - 10 times the man Shane ever was or will be, and as evidence, Tommy would have walked over hot coals to go to Shane's funeral, as a sign of respect, had the situation been reversed. Unfortunately Shane doesn't have that kind of class and thinks primarily if not exclusively of himself.
Second, I am not sure why Mr. Chevron equates his own absence with Shane's. Chevron didn't owe Tommy anything, since he never employed him. In many ways, Tommy's depressing last 7 years or so happened because of Shane and his handlers. Tommy never had a pot to piss in, was constantly not getting money owed to him, and at the same time, was expected to be at Shane's beck and call. It is shameful how Tommy was treated by Shane and especially his management. There is no similar duty owed by Mr Chevron, as far as I know, but Shane's absence from the funeral, after 13 or more years on and off employing Tommy at less than subsistence wages, assuming he got paid at all for the one gig every 6 months Shane bothered to show up for, is far more insulting.
Mr Heatley''s absence was equally disappointing, though perhaps there was a reason - I would hope he has the guts to share it, if so. He probably owed money to half the people at the funeral and that is why he didn't turn up - or perhaps he was afraid Maddog would have torn him limb from limb (which he probably would have done).
So - hopefully there has been some truth shed on all this. Tommy was a loyal and good hearted bloke and he will be dearly missed. Hopefully, those already trying to re-write history and make excuses will shut the f*** up and leave Tommy his dignity.
Pogue Mahone indeed.
And I bet some of you out there already have figured out I used to be in a band with Tommy - I wonder which one of youse figures it out first. Once you do, you'll know where to find me. And I'll be waiting....
RIP, Beastie.
