The Radiators Playing Belfast?

Post Thu Jan 04, 2007 12:23 am

First off all Mr C, Happy New Year! I too like many others seen the Radiators for the first time in Dublin. I enjoyed the music big time (Love Joe Strummer Song). Not too ramble on but I was gutted and very dissapointed by some so called Pogues Fans calling for Shane when the Radiators where playing. You where just right when you said "You can call his name all you want, he won't come on any quicker" I think the same thing happened infact when Joe was lead singer of the Pogues and he had to put up with it during a whole gig!

Finally, I was just woundering if the Radiators where playing in Belfast sometime soon?

Anyway all the best for the New Year Mr C, Hope to see ya soon!!!

I agree with you Mitchcfc. There were a lot of little shits up the front who did'nt even know who the great Mr. Chevron was. I explained to a few of them that he played guitar with the Pogues and I was met with blank stares, probably due to a lack of any brain....And Philip was dead right. Annoying little fuckers.

I was also supprised how few people went to watch the Radiators...Their loss.

Above all, it was that very fact - the sudden memory of little squirts shouting "Shaneo! Shaneo!" throughout Joe Strummer's performances with The Pogues, that upset and disorientated me most that night. I had almost forgotten, and the recall suddenly seemed painful and still raw. I loved Joe Strummer and felt he deserved better. I realise that then, as now, this is just a small minority of a Pogues audience, but their squeaky voices tend to be disproportionately loud. It came as a huge and welcome surprise to me later that people genuinely dug the Radiators at the Point and, for their sake, I wish I had been able to overcome the heckling more dismissively. Thanks for your support. No gigs lined up at the moment.

It should have come as no surprise at all that people 'dug' the Radiators. Ye were excellent, as I have said before. I think you dealt with the twits that were shouting very well indeed and it certainly did'nt diminish my enjoyment of the set one bit. In fact, if anything it enhanced it, because they were annoying the shit out of me as well.

If you mean, as I think you do, the Trouble Pilgrim cover, that's Radiators drummer Johnny Bonnie, who ever since has had the dubious privilege of responding - or not - to "do the face, Johnny, do the face" from complete strangers on the streets of Dublin. The "face" is explained at least partly by the fact that Johnny was facing an invasive medical procedure the next morning. All five of us were photographed individually for the cover, but Johnny was so obviously the most troubled-looking that his photo chose itself.

Not on really is it. No matter whos supporting you should give them respect. Let alone a abnd who's lead singer is part of the main attraction aswel.

You were too polite you should have told the squirts to fuck off.

My recollection was Mr C informing the eejits that Shane came on at nine o'clock, no sooner - no matter how much they shouted. They were simply too thick to be able to tell the time.

Given how Mr C was made to feel by the foolish minority, I hope there was some consolation in that "Joe Strummer" was so well received by the rest of us. :)

Ach no, it's just one of those things where you're mad at yourself for not saying precisely the mot juste at the time, and you think of the perfect riposte just as you're on your way back to the dressing room.

Don't I know it! Many times a day or two goes by before I suddenly realize I should have just yelled "Sod off you ijjit!"

Some day I'll have that one well prepared ahead of time (or perhaps some other even more witty and crushing retort).
