I ordered mine from Amazon in early November and was promised it by dec 24th or so by the LATEST! just got an email from Amazon stating they had to revise their delivery date and did I still want it? Hell yes I still want it! Now, who knows? February? if anyone knows any other way to get one in Souther California I'd like to know.

Should be alright. I read her Hawkwind one and got right into it.

I've read it and I'd say it was well worth getting.

Thanks , I've ordered it off Amazon . I was hoping to get it for christmas but i got 2 or 3 great presents off people i love and 1 that was off someone who i dont so i cant complain .

I should get it in a couple of days.

According to Carol's book Julie Pritchard's father was a member of a group that won the Eurovision Song Contest. Does any one know who the group were? I've known Julie for 20 years - on and off - and she has never mentioned this before.

Roddy - that was a ruddy quick response! I had guessed Brotherhood of Man and looked them up on the web. Their classic 'Save Your Kippers for Tea' was indeed a worthy Eurovision winner. But I was looking for someone with the surname of Pritchard. I'm not covinced, yet! I may have to email Julie for confirmation. You, however, may have some inside knowledge!

The Idle Race
Dave Pritchard, Greg Masters & Roger Spencer
were backing group to Birmingham's Mike Sheridan,
The Nightriders. He went solo in 1966 and they
then joined-up with fellow Brummie Jeff Lynne
who became the leading player in the band,
contributing all of the new material and giving the
band direction. There followed some brilliant pop
compositions on single and album, The Birthday Party
and Follow Me Follow amongst them. As with other fine
groups (such as The Creation), The Idle Race were met
without enthusiasm outside of the West Midlands and
eventually Jeff Lynne gave in to pressures to join
the successful leading Birmingham band,
The Move. He soon left though and pioneered
The Electric Light Orchestra. The Idle Race
struggled on for a while but eventually evolved
into the Steve Gibbons Band.

The group in question is indeed Brotherhood Of Man who, before they became Eurobabblers, had some pretty fine blue-eyed soul singles with "Where Are You Going To My Love" and "United We Stand" around 1970. Julie, however, prefers to talk up her Dad's later involvement in the Wurzels.

I checked a few other places in the US and could not find it. My wife ordered it for me in November as a Christmas gift from Amazon and we had the same experience; in fact I still don't have it. It did ship out on 12/21 and was "delivered" on 12/26; except that we left town on that date and the post office has been holding our mail until today. I hope it will be in the mail today.
Also, the price keeps going up here in the US. Back in October it was 24.74 or something, then it went to $35. Today it is $39.21.

I was on a two weeks vacation in Goa and finally had the time to put my hammock between two palm trees, have couple of beers and cigarettes and read the book. Carol Clerk has certainly written a solid book and has put a lot of effort to it. The result is great and it is one of those books you just want to continue reading no matter how tired you are.

I now feel that I understand the Pogues better but not in a way that would compromise my enthusiasm in the band. It did not spoil any of the "magic".

However, at some points I noticed that some of the parts I already knew were not told in entire. It was a bit like not mentioning the punchline. Then I started thinking that if these parts are like that, probably everything else is as well and I started noticing that on many occasions single things are left open when a few more words would have been enough to make everything clear. Anyway, by no means was this a major concern.

Ofcourse, being a greedy fan, there were millions of things that I would have liked to know more about. For example, why Spider sang some of the songs (Jesse James f.ex.) or why were these songs in particular chosen for him? Then there were those things that I would have wanted to know more but the band clearly did not want to come public with them, which is fair enough (What happened with Cait in the 2004 tour? Did she want take the bass and ditch Darryl? f.ex.). But I suppose, having just had this huge information package, it is not fair nor realistic to be asking for more since there were quite a bit of really personal stuff which the people involved could just as well left out but chose to give for us.

I really enjoyed it. Thank you The Pogues and especially Carol!
