no one can do this like kirsty
no one else understands the song
it's a hard song for women to understand
the prose is so indcredibly male
The girl cried out a few times and the old man slept with his mouth wide open and his bad teeth showing.

Shane has ALWAYS had a reedy, raspy, rusty almost turberculor aspect to both his speaking and singing voice. I think he had a bit a of cold that day, too.
I think he was great on that show - he looked great. That's Shane.

Even Britney Spears sounds .. uhm ... 'better' on a record

True, True.

But my point is about Concerts and TV Shows. I think people don't seem to do vocal warm ups before TV Shows for some reason.

I find it odd that many members on this forum, and many Shane MacGowan fans, are more fasinated with the drunken, blathering fuckups of Shane and find his performances when he can barely even sing the song "Genius."

I like the Pogues just as much as the next guy, but I like Shane's voice and I like to hear him sing, not struggle to finish the song. I thought the girl did a pretty good job too though.

Oi have to say Shaneo's voice is amazing and oi most loike the later version - Popes period - rough shaped voice! Clear vocals, hmm ok, but for this koind of music and expression it ain't an advantage from me point of view... what Shaneo did and does today is for me appealing.. tis more punk voice, even when not clear, even with mistakes... The same style oi prefer meself.. and yes oi've seen many "musicians" with whom oi worked to say "thats too punk or sing more clear, we don't understand this and that".. - those don't see whats essence and it ain't hearing words loike on tape, it ain't pop voice, tis punk voice, tis loive stuff!
Those people who wanna clear vocals, theres bunch of artistic performers doing pop crap, soingin' loike birdy posers, but Shaneo ain't in that category!
Oi haven't got any problem with Shaneo's roughness in hes singing, nor with mistakes in general, OI PROBABLY EVEN ADMIRE IT MORE and oim really bothered when people start saying bad stuff, loike we wanna Shane to perform loike in 80s or we wanna Shane perform loike on CD.. and yes, oi hate to hear similar remarks for me singing  For me, nothing is more natural than for Oirish punk rock, for songs Shaneo wrote and sings, to hear exactly what he does - and IT AIN'T DRUNKEN, BLATHERING FUCKUPS, NOR STRUGGLING

Glory to the greatest Paddy, keep on with the groovy voice! 8)

I have the Jonathan Woss and the CDUK versions on DVD - the Wossie show one is a fantastic performance (although,Mr.Chevron sir,I will have to go and watch it again now,as I hadn't noticed Jems absence  )
The CDUK performance was a little jaded by comparison, but what the hell - I still love the song :D

Its a great performance and I downloaded the audio not long after and it still sounds brilliant.
