Well Andy my friend, it was 5 weeks ago now & I was effectively on a vodka drip...
When I 1st sat down Gerry O'Boyle said my eyes were popping out my head and made me where my shades!!!! very nice, thankyou!!!
We did talk about the Phil Spector case you see and I said "he killed her" and Shane agreed with me but Gerry O' said... he hasnt been tried yet then I said he kept Ronnie Spector a prisoner and Gerry O' Boyle laughed and said to Shane "Its Lana Clarkson!!!!!"
We talked about Steve Irwin (rest in peace) and Shane came out with a bit of a sick joke he'd been told the night before but it was a most excellent jest... wanna hear it??? you probably already have...
We talked about music. I had brought out a great stack of CDs for their perusal (one copy CD marked D. Shannon, I was gratified caught Gerry O'Boyles eye and he asked me if it was Del Shannon and it was)...Cant remember much else just now but maybe it'll come back to me.
Why is Gerry O'Boyle so cool??? I'm not too sure... maybe have to ask God that... he looked extremely groovy in his natty white suit (possibly what he'd worn to the Irish awards thingy the night before) and he posseses a very sexy voice... also he laughed at my jokes etc which must be a good thing!!!
I dont know anything about Filthy McNastys or the history of Gerry O'Boyles boozers but if anyone does I'd love to hear more....

filthy's was a top boozer, relaxed mayhem, never any trouble and some of islingtons great characters, the rabbi, amadaus, agent x, it attracted and welcomed the freaks that other pubs didnt want and it was so much better for it. molly malones was a hard act to follow but gerry did it, havent been to the boogaloo yet as i've moved to the sticks, but if its got anything of the atmosphere of filthy's and molly's its gotta be good.like most people who have met gerry, i consider him a friend, he has that ability, and his pubs reflect it.

'tis a long way from Brixton... but by all accounts it's worth the trip.

One of the hazardettes has a tendency to go down there for the evening from Cambridge, so from Brixton it's a snip.

Tis a fair drag, but you can get the Northern Line right from Highgate or Archway all the way down to Stockwell, will take a while id think but it's simple enough.

I know that because i was looking at staying with my mate up there for the Brixton show and he lives up that way

A mate of mine used to work for the refuse department of the council, a young Irish lad. Gerry asked him and a few of the others if they could pick up rubbish three times a day as opposed to once, and he'd bung them a few quid each. This continued for a while, but was getting to the stage where it was making the lads get back late to the depot. Not wanting to get in trouble at work, they politely told Gerry that they couldn't do three pick-ups anymore. Gerry's response? He got on the phone and "anonymously" informed their boss that they were getting a bit of money on the side for doing unauthorised pick-ups. My mate was sacked.

I can't say I've heard any of the Popes speak well of him. I see him as a leech, and he was very cruel to Tommy in kicking him out. I guess that hypocrite will show his face at the funeral...disgusting.

I worked at Filthy Macs for two years and have to totally disagree with you about Gerry. Gerry is a wicked guy! Everyone who worked for him loved him. He shared the greatest stories that had our jaws on the floor, he is unique.

He loved Tom! You obviously did not know that, but I do, because I witnessed this love first hand. I have not been able to get hold of Gerry since Tom's passing and that is not good. I know more than many others how much the passing of Tom will affect him-deeply-he would sob to see what you have written about the Tom getting kicked out issue. That was deep and that was decided for many reasons too personal to mention.

Please, out of respect for Tom and his family who are also good friends of Gerry forget the issue of Tom getting kicked out because you don't know the reasons behind it, but lets just say Gerry had Toms health in the forefront of his mind when he made the decision! Cruel?
