"Pogue Mahone"

Is extremely underrated. I finally got it today and it's very good.

Indeed, I actually prefer it to Waiting For Herb, Spider seems more confident on the vocals, and Jem Finer wrote some stellar tracks, especially Bright Lights, Anniversary, and Tosspint. I love When the Ship Comes In and The Sun and the Moon. I was among the bores that cold-shouldered the two post-Shane releases upon their madien voyage, but recently I have returned to both albums and have found songs that I actually do enjoy. However, I still prefer Shane's Popes albums over Waiting For Herb and Pogue Mahone.

but yesterday i have buy Pogue mahone and i think
that the dylan cover When the ship comes in is
it's a good reason to spend €9.90

i have pogue mahone on all the time, its one of my faves.
living in a world without her, anniversary, and love you till the end are amazing - infact i have it on right now

Love You Til The End is one of the few songs I can play on the guitar so I love it twice over. Heh heh.

I was the same, I only got those albums less than a year ago. But I bought Pogue Mahone (off Ebay), realised it was ace, and within a fortnight I'd bought Waiting For Herb as well (Ebay again).

Get them. You need them. I hate myself for not getting them sooner. Naturally they aren't as good as the albums with Shane, but then, what is???

By the same token, I think the live shows the band did after Shane left are very under-rated. I know Shane has in the past accused them of being "too professional", but personally I think that's bollocks. One of the best Pogues gigs I've been to was at Leeds University in December 1992, when they previewed a lot of the 'Waiting For Herb' tracks, and a fucking great concert it was too. There's also a great live recording from Wolverhampton in September 1995 that shows how the band could still really cut it even after losing key members.

You can call them "too professional" if you like, but I'd take that any day over some of the god-awful, shambolic performances Shane and the Popes put in after about 1997.

I rather listen to the lads down the pub playing Pogues songs than The Popes, jesus they could play a Pogues song if they had their lead singer with them.....

I've had "Waiting for Herb" for a long time now but I just got "Pogue Mahone", and it is great. I actually like it more than "Waiting for Herb".
