Stomach Ulcer

Mr. Chevron recently I finished the new Pogues book by Carol Clerk, and I didn't realize that you were suffering from stomach ulcer pain during the Pogues touring. Were the pains really bad, I read that you had to miss entire US tour because of them, and also it explains why you are sitting down on the luggage on the If I Should Fall From Grace With God album cover. How is the ulcer doing today, hopefully it's gone and I think I read that it was.

Thanks Iain. In the early 1990s it was discovered that ulcers could be cured with antibiotics. That did the trick and thank heavens I have not had a twinge since.

Yep, in December 1987. Joe Strummer covered for Philip Chevron at the US gigs, and at the beginning of the tour the Pogues assembled in a New York drunk tank to film the FONY video.

You were one lucky person Phil. My father-in-law had almost three quarters of his stomach removed because of a stomach ulcer and went from about 200 lbs to about 110 lbs body weight (14 stones to about 7 stones) and remained that weight for the rest of his life. It was a scary sight. He was over 6 feet tall.

People think you're kidding when you say that about Doddy, but it's true he is a greater investment of time than Tristan Und Isolde and probably as worthwhile too. Last time I watched him from the front row of the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham and noticed he even has a clock in front of him so he doesn't get completely carried away. He's on the Royal Variety Show this week, by the way. Himself and Barry Humphries are the last of the great music hall clowns.
