Of course I did, both Tuesday night and last night. Like I said, best two shows I'll ever go to in my life (unless you come back again).philipchevron wrote:Sure I remember you Guy. Hope you had a good time.

The Pogues finally tour again! I'd never seen them in the past & thought that I'd really like to see them, particularly at the Fillmore. Luckily, their resident raging alcoholic/singer Shane McGowan is still alive. I'd once, long ago, thought about seeing them, but didn't once I found out that McGowan wasn't on the tour because he was too drunk to be allowed on the plane over to the US.
The show was everything I thought it would be. The crowd was DRUNK and rowdy, singing along with a lot of the songs, throwing lots of beer (hadn't seen that much beer fly since the late, great Beat Farmers shows). I just had a couple Jameson's to get into the proper spirit. Shane McGowan was even more drunk than the crowd (as he has been for the last 25 years or so). I couldn't understand a damn thing he said the whole night, between the Irish accent & the slurred speech (but I could understand the singing – kinda like an Irish Ozzy). He had to have someone help him up the 3 steps up to the stage. Somehow, though, he remembers all the words. The band was tight & wonderful & manages to work around Shane. Near the end of the show, a woman came onstage to sing Kirsty McColl's part in the song "Fairytale of New York". Fake snow fell from the rafters as she & Shane waltzed away the closing section of the song - - it was really beautiful - - such a great heartbreaking song. It was really a fantastic show.

The show was excellent, as was the venue, but unfortunately we had to deal with an almost constant mosh pit behind us full of stinky, inconsiderate sods! And no, we weren't in the front. We were toward the back to the side...exactly where people who like their personal space respected should be. Assholes.

Who is this goober? Too bad they left a Pogues show with that lingering distaste for the audience, instead of the post-concert haze/glow (like I have) from all the fun camaraderie, the knocking around; the end product of a good show.
Their shows are meant to be "interactive," their music to be danced to, rowdily if ya feel like it. Let loose. A chance to have fun with strangers, show yer spirit. Duh.
But then, there are many stand-offish, overly precious folks in this here Bay Area, a place I've lived in far too long (due to my family being based here), a place I've escaped temporarily before and plan to again (now if I could just convince my Galwegian boyfriend to bail me outta here, hee hee!)
Sorry, not trying to offend all Bay-Areans; just the artsy yuppie "don't touch me or be too friendly, I need my space, just admire my style and money and my overtly liberal posings" types, of which there are too many....you notice it when you live elsewhere and return.
Anyway, enough on that; great show!!!!!

Can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding. Thinking before ranting is typically a Good Thing to do.

There were actually at least eight of us there from NFLD; second tour this year for myself, my lady and one of my cousins.
My cousin said he saw some of the b'ys up watching from their balcony while the crowd sifted out. I was out on poster duty, while my lady picked up a pint glass. Much strategy involved in getting the optimal experience!
Anyway, the show was fantastic once again, fellows! Can't pick a favourite out of the Fillmore and the Nokia. All I know is our next plans are for the UK - deceivingly much closer than the West Coast, despite being across the Big Pond.
