Story behind Shane’s gig in Southsea (March 19, 2005)

Nice story about why Shane is going to play at a very small venue in March 19, 2005 appeared at the Popes official website.

"Unbelievably, John Roberts, the organiser at South Parade Pier Southsea of such events as Bullfrog Blues & Roots Club and Southsea Folk Festival, has pulled off an major coup by booking Shane MacGowan & The Popes to appear at The Pier - a 750 capacity venue - on Saturday 19th March - two days after St Patricks Day! Yeh, a very nice story indeed, loved it...
It was on the 23rd of June
As I lay blasted in my room
A small bird sang on an ivy branch
And the song they sang was the "Jug of Punch"
