Try to respond to points where possible. Try not to be a pedant unless there's great comedy to be had, or you can't think of anything clever to say.

Now back to the mud slinging.

My point exactly, well said.

Not sure i agree with this Benno. Overrall i'd say Punk was a source of huge inspiration to Shane and many others & continues to be. Substance abuse is a different thing entirely.
As for some of the other points raised on this thread i say "Teeth is teeth" & "Art is art".

Not Nazi. Just Janitor.

Besides, I did leave people two completely valid excuses to be pedants: Great Comedy can be had; and nothing clever can be thought of.

Still - Just my opinion.

Total nonsense. The early punk scene, before the identitipunks and tourist cameras arrived, was extraordinarily creative and positive and most of the people who were active then, in films, design, music, fashion, literature, journalism, art, theatre etc, remain so today. Did we take lots of ampthetamine sulphate in case it all suddenly came to an end while we were foolish enough to grab some shuteye? Sure. Were most of us still taking it 3 years later? Not a chance.

Wow.... I have been missing out on some good pointless argument over here. I'll have to pay more attention to threads rather than reading how they start and dismissing them as crap. So..... who's winning?

Oh, and I'm glad to hear you are dry Benno. :) My brother ruined his life by smoking a lot of weed coming out of his teens and through his 20s. Be careful.
What kind of fuckery is this?

What is the point of this debate??????????you either like Shane and the rest of the gang for what they are or you don't. Its your choice no one elses.
No one is forced to watch, listen or read about the band, you pay your money you take your choice.

Last big rant I promise...

My mistake was rambling about the man's missing teeth too much and sounding too accusing in my tone, I lost track of my original point. My point was not that he shouldn't fix his teeth or anything to do with teeth.

All I was trying to say is that I'd always assumed beyond the fans who see the Pogues as just another band to tap your foot along to ( not that I'm attacking those people, it's their choice ) I'd assumed there were people who liked the band for the same reasons I did. The true integrity and vision of the whole band but especially of Macgowan, the fact that in an age of 'rock stars' who spend more time buying hair gel, ipods and wrap around shades than exploring their own minds and souls Shane was the complete opposite.

I was just dissapointed to read in the reviews of Hell's ditch and the snake that even the 'true' fans seemed to only want Shane to go so far out, that they'd only follow the man so far before they decided they wanted him to stop on his journey and stick where he was, singing them the songs THEY wanted to hear the way THEY wanted to hear them rather than the songs and the style HE wanted to put out. I'm just a believer that if an artist is being true to themselves that's by far the most important thing and I find it offensive when people complain that this true artist is not giving them what THEY want. Artists don't give you what you want they give you what you didn't know you wanted until you got it and they give you what you need.

Anyway I know I ramble on and in this case I admit it was all pointless because after reading up more on here I've found that I was wrong and that there are people who respect Shane Macgowan as an artist and not just an amusing dancing monkey.

Well ... While we of course all respect his artistic vision and purity of form I think it'd be a mistake for us to not also appreciate his fantastic Dancing Monkey two-step.

The monkey's got moves. Oook.

The question is, will the 50,000 dentists in Vegas while we're there check out The Pogues or Phantom Of The Opera?

Of course not. They're all just presenting their Bids for Mr Mac's minor bridge work.

Well, you are right, but I'll have you know that the day you roll out of there is the start of a dental convention. I found this, here http://www.henryschein.com/dental/addservices/conventions.asp

October 16-20: Las Vegas, NV
ADA Annual Session
