"Oh how the bad boys of pop have changed. One-time Irish hellraisers The Pogues were having lunch in Glasgow's Ubiquitous Chip yesterday and were dawdling at the end of the meal. Suddenly a band member realised that the four black hacks they had ordered were waiting outside – and he promptly popped out to give each driver a tenner as a thank-you for waiting.
"On realising it was the Pogues, one driver declared: "They're not gettin' in my taxi." Seeing the raised eyebrows of his fellow drivers he quickly added: "No that I'm a bigot – I just think their music is shite."
