DOES SHANE STILL WRITE

Post Tue Jul 18, 2006 7:04 pm

Hi does anyone know if Shane still writes material? Bono seems to hint in The Great Hunger that he produces songs like theirs no tomorrow and that his songs in the bin Bono could only dream of writting.

Bono no longer collects Shane's trash. He got a job singing with some band. Ask Nick Cave.

Nice to hear that Bono is finally getting somewhere with his music career and can stop working day jobs waiting for his big break.

Look, it is not possible to give a serious answer to the question "Does Shane still write?" The honest answer for Shane, as for myself and, I don't doubt, Bono too, is "Yes, all the time, every day." Being a writer is being in a sort of state of grace which allows the writer to gradually, painstakingly build a picture in his head. The actual physical process of putting the darn thing on paper is just the final, and in many ways least interesting, part of the process. I "wrote" most of my lyrics on the new Radiators album in less than a week, but the songs have existed for months, years, in my head, on bits of paper, in the margins of books, scribbled into theatre Playbills, jotted on the back of Airplane boarding cards etc etc, like so many scattered jigsaw pieces just waiting to be formed into a new and hopefully original shape. I am writing now. That may seem like stating the obvious, but I don't just mean I'm writing this post.

Who wants more members anyway? They'd only say "Shane would be good if he didn't drink so much, but I do like that Christmas record, you know the one with Sinead O' Connor"

And here I was thinking we were humorously terrible. What a burden to be so wrong about one's self. :(

Regarding more members - The fora and community around them is organic. The atmosphere is determined by the participants. The level of discourse will raise and fall with tides, hormones, drugs, and any number of other contributing factors. It is what it is.

I'm not particularly interested in being proselytized to about how to gain more members. Volume of participants is not the goal of this site or board. I'm much more interested in a group of people with a common interest (and that I consider to be my friends) enjoying themselves. If the community is smaller than it could be if we all suppressed our urges to poke fun at each other then so be it. That's a price I'm comfortable with.

...

Huh. It's nearly 3:00am. I bet when I read this tomorrow I'll be totally embarrassed by it.

Philip wrote is very wisely, thats really the point... song is a really just a product of a loife, way of thinking, bloody best or worst situations... or how oi look at it beeing a song writer is loike beeing a philosopher, so from that point of view... Shane loives=Shane wroites :D Yes, oid loike to see Shane publishing sth soon, but even what hes done so far is so strong and powerful that hes done and shown hemself as oi loike to say it... real Oirish philosopher and oid say it again although some people understand it badly when oi say it... yes, oi consider Shaneo to be Hoigh King of Oireland(hes work puts hem in that position)! Shane and hes work has put influence on many, including me, me own band, songs oi wroite meself... oi can't say that any of that would ever happen if oi haven't met Shaneos work and hes way of looking at things.
Medusa Fora is an amazing place, oi love it more and more as oi become more familiar with great people here. There aren't too many members who post significantly but thats what oi loike... those who speak, speak the wisest of philosophies and its great to be in the amazing society of great people. The point is not how much members are here, the true spirit of this place is outstanding(that why oim here anyway, oim very picky  ).

I may be wrong, but that feels like a case of "horse-before-cart". Still, yeah, it would be nice, wouldn't it?

Actually I hadnt thought of it like that. I used to write a lot poetry and then after certain events in my life I just stopped about four years ago. I tried to continue but nothing came out so I stopped writting. Then about a year ago I just started jotting some stuff down and it came back again. I cant explain why it just did. I now realise it was probably a stupid question ha ha. Ps in relation to the other comments posted i certainly took them in the humour they where posted in and took no offence what so ever. This is probably the best site on the whole of the internet and long may it continue
