Shane Djing at Death Disco Belfast

Post Fri May 26, 2006 7:20 am

By Kevin Mc:

my mate swing went to one of the show in belfast awhile ago. shane arrived 15 minutes before closing time and the first tune he dropped was a rebel song by 'the wolfe tones'. there was a mini riot and, according to swing, the boul shane was hit over the head with an empty jack daniels bottle that had been on a table as a candle holder. anyway, the row subsided and the management allowed shane to give it another go on the turntables. at which point shane starts spinning...the wolfe tones, and you can guess what happens next...

sorry to disappoint but that story is complete bollox.

the gig was at the front page in belfast in 2003.shane sat at the bar all night chatting and signing autographs etc...and was in great form.

the place was jammed with people and shane came on around 12 to paradise city by guns and roses.he selected the tracks for bp fallon to play.

he didnt play the wolfe tones at all and there was no mini riot.some dick tried to jump the stage and landed on the decks knocking the whole system out...end of gig.the bottle part is correct...some one did throw a smirnoff bottle randomly and it just missed shane.i think security got the guy.i know this as i was beside shane on stage during his set.he took it in good humour as did bp fallon who was trying to protect his gear.

this is what shane played

Margaret Barry: The Cottages With The Horseshoe
Val Doonican: Walk Tall
The Flanagan Brothers: Rakes Of Clonmel introducing Sarsfield's Jig
Pecker Dunne: Wexford
Delia Murphy: Down By The Glenside
Thin Lizzy: Rosalie from Live And Dangerous
Delia Murphy: The Moonshiner
Gene Pitney with the first-ever hit written by Jagger-Richards: That Girl Belongs To Yesterday
Aaron McMullan from his CD Drunken Novenas: Not You
The Doors: The WASP [Texas Radio And The Big Beat]
David Bowie: Sorrow
Siamsa Gaedheal Celidh Band: King Of The Jigs/An t'Altair/Jack Walsh/MacDonagh's Jig
and - almost! - Hank Williams: I Saw The Light

A legend-killer

OK, I'll try to reanimate it performing artificial respiration, its mouth-to- mouth version: there was another DD in Belfast. On 25 of Aug, 2005. Were you beside Shane that time too?

Hey, Mick! it was not agressive, it was ..erm.. disabusing
Harsh truth is lethal for such delicate creations as myths. It's not your fault. Such is nature of life. I would qualify it as involuntary manslaughter or homicide by misadventure.
Ok let's bury the story. It was rather lovely (any fiction usually is). Where is a spade?

P.S. thanks for commendation 8)

P.P.S. Miss Walshy, you mean I owe him a kiss? ;)
