Well if our American friend is unaware of certain things I must inform him rebel music is not just about terrorists - it much more complicated than that but if he fails to see it in his utter narrowmindedness that's his problem... though it does not entitle him to slagging what he doesn't know shit about or understand.
It was on the 23rd of June
As I lay blasted in my room
A small bird sang on an ivy branch
And the song they sang was the "Jug of Punch"

Might I suggest he get hold of and listen to 'Publocked' by Ding Dong Denny O'Reilly and the Hairy Bowsies, these boyo's take their rebel song singing very seriously ;) and it's an unusual approach to the Rebel Song genre.

Produced by one Pete Holidai of The Radiators, I am reliably informed that Rum, Sodomy And The Lash was the sonic template for Publocked.

Well Goodbar, where do I begin...you've put yourself in the hotseat. I've done it myself, and learned a lesson. Read through your posts and think about it.

Another bit of nonsense... do you even know what the word "fag" signifies to me as opposed to what it signifies to you?

goodbar sounds a cunt doesn't he?

yer I used to like The Wolfe Tones but now I find it impossible to listen to them cos they've been slagged off to me so much I have been poisoned against them, as far as I can tell though it was justified they are pretty boring and thick...
does anyone know of any recent intelligent fucking rebel songs?

That would depend on how you define "rebel songs". The Dubliners recorded some songs you could class as rebel music and they were a great band. However, there's a big difference between them recording some songs about the political history of Ireland and bands like the Wolfe Tones banging on endlessly about the "revolution", "up the RA" and all that crap.

There was this one song that I had on a tape years and years ago, called "Only our rivers run free". I can't really remember much about it, who sung it or the lyrics, but I keep thinking that was an intelligent "rebel song".

There is a lovely version of "Only Our Rivers" on the first Planxty album. It's a great song, both in melody and lyrics (lyrics here), more on the sad, nostalgic side than on the rebellious one.
