You mean Shane?
He's not got a fake Irish accent. He speaks (almost) like any London-Irish kid from the seventies. He's got one when he sings, but it's not fake, it's all for the song in the tradition, in the same way Mick Jagger sings with an American accent cos of the rhythm and blues idiom that he works within.

Shane doesn't talk or sing in an Irish accent, at least not one that I've ever heard.

Well I saw the sozzled old fucker talking on TV recently and there wasn't a trace of London in his accent - just an all-purpose southern brogue which was, of course, impossible to attribute to any part of Ireland. County Archway perhaps.

Basically back in the day he had a cockney accent but sung quite clearly in an irish accent. However, as he became more fucked in interviews it became more difficult to tell exactly wot accent he has but i think its a cockney one still.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think you may have been watching the footage of Anthea Turner doing a Shane MacGowan impression for some TV programme from a few years back. Pretty good she was too.

Sadly these appear to be entirely different people.
