Old Scottish Folk-Punk Band

Post Tue Apr 25, 2006 4:40 pm

I was wondering if anybody has some information about a Scottish folk punk band called "We Free Kings" that released one LP ("Hell on Earth and Rosy Cross") and some EPs ("Oceans", "Death of the Wild Colonial Boy", "Still Standing") around 1987-1990.

WE FREE KINGS:
Edinburgh band who combined Celtic folk with grungy, punky rock'n'roll in a manner similar to the Pogues. Line-up was:
Joe Kingman - vocals,
Deb Holbrook - guitar,
Geoff Pagan - fiddle,
Phil Bull - cello,
Pam Dobson - melodeon,
Colin Blakey - reeds,
Kenny Welsh - drums.

ALBUMS/SINGLES (not in order):
WEAPON OF PEACE
Hell On Earth And Rosy Cross

STILL STANDING (EP)
Oceans (EP)
WEAPON OF PEACE
Death Of The Wild Colonial Boy

Many thanks to MacRua for all the information.

I was thinking to buy some used vinyls by this band. Are they worth hearing? Which one would you pick?

I imagine MacRua, who is on the computer all day at work, actually works for Interpol. And he has top secret clearance. So he could pick up the trail of the person who owed my boss's client a very large money judgment and left the country, last known address: South Africa. But perhaps my imagination is just working overtime.... :)

I'm sorry, but under our new Industrial Relations Policy, we refuse to pay 'overtime' to our 'employees'. Your brain will just have to cope with its' meagre weekly stipend...

Well ... The Company (All Praise The Company) sent me to NYC for a week a month ago. But that's probably a different The Company (All Praise The Company) than you're thinking of.
