the stage

Post Wed Apr 12, 2006 5:08 pm

I'm going to Dublin on April 29th and I'm wondering if there's any play on that might be worth catching. I've already asked on the main forum without much luck and since you're always informed about the world of theatre I thought you might know if there's anything interesting on or at least where to look. thanks

This week I'm seeing Eh Joe and Endgame again at the Gate in their centenary Beckett Festival. I think these finish April 22 but you may be lucky (no pun) and catch their near-as-damn-it definitive Waiting For Godot instead. Google Gate Theatre Dublin for full programme.

I'm also seeing the Eurpides/Conall Morrison The Bacchae [of Baghdad] at the Abbey this week and the new Enda Walsh play at the Helix, but I have a feeling these also close April 22. The Gaiety has Opera Ireland while you're there. Can't recall which ones they're doing, but again Google should help.

Thanks so much, Philip! Why on earth didn't I think of Beckett myself?
Sadly, there are no more performances of Play when I'm in Dublin. But there are still performances of WfG - I hope I can get tickets, I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Had Samuel Beckett lived, he would have been 100 years old last Thursday. Happy Birthday Sam. We'll go on. We will, we will......

I went to the Gate on Sunday just to find out that there was no performance. Bummer. We wanted to try again on Monday but somehow we ended up attending rehearsals of an Irish school performance of The Tain. review to follow ;)
but thanks for your help, Phil.

Unlike New York, Sunday performances are the exception rather than the rule in London and Dublin. The Tain sounds like fun.
