I'll be there for sure. I'm from Toronto and though I've been to NY, I've never been outside of Manhattan/Harlem. I'm going to the Friday night gig, and basically just hoping to hook up with some people at the show who I'll be able to travel with to the Southpaw.

It still seems a bit dodgy as I have this horrible feeling I'll be stranded in Brooklyn alone, pissed drunk in the middle of the night.....I'm just kind of counting on fellow pogues fans to point me in the right direction :)

I really wouldn't worry too much...I felt perfectly fine around Southpaw, late at night, pissed drunk, (almost) alone...

Subways 2,3 go straight there from Times Square (maybe 20-30 min), the walk is about 5-10 minutes from Bergen St Station and it's a well frequented subway line and walking area with lots of shops, restaurants, pubs etc.
Southpaw is a great place, but I'm surprised it's not sold out yet since it can't be more than ~500 tickets available.

Not sure if I'm going myself, will have to decide on the spot.

Shane at Death Disco

Post Thu Mar 16, 2006 3:51 am

FYI: For some very strange reason, this week's Time Out New York has the venue for Friday night's Death Disco listed as "St.Patrick's Old Cathedral" :?

Just so everyons knows, Death Disco is still on at Southpaw in Brooklyn ...

... i said a hip hop the hippie the hippie

to the hip hip hop, a you dont stop

the rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie

to the rhythm of the boogie, the beat

now what you hear is not a test--i'm rappin to the beat

and me, the bp, and my friends are gonna try to move your feet

see i am wonder shane and i like to say hello

to the black, to the white, the red, and the brown, the purple and yellow ...

....and easier to get to from Nokia.

BTW, TONY's "Club" Section has it at Southpaw too.

Absolutely!

This is where they filmed the baptism scene in "The Godfather" ... and one of my favourite pieces of movie trivia ... Sofia Coppola was the infant in that baptism scene.

Don't know what "Old St.Patrick" would have to say about Shane and BP doing their thang from the altar!

Just as a point of info--The "Old St Pat's Cathedral" is down in Chinatown, not the one in the picture on Fifth Avenue. It is the original, before most immigrant began moving en-masse uptown.

I'd say more SOHO/Little Italy. Not Chinatown.

Technically, its in Litte Italy, which is probably why "The Godfather" scene was filmed there. Soho is further west and Chinatown is further south.

The picture posted by "tar" correctly shows "Old St. Patrick's Cathedral".

Southpaw...

Post Fri Mar 17, 2006 6:22 pm

For those with any concerns about the venue and Brooklyn's safety....it couldn't be in a nicer/safer place. It's a bit of a trek, but fast with the 2/3 from Times Square. And it's FAR form being in "South Brooklyn." I'd head there if I didn't have another place to be after the show.

No, it is South Brooklyn. South Brooklyn isn't the southern part of Brooklyn, it's west-northwest Brooklyn, north of Park Slope. Its name dates from the time it was the southern part of the original Dutch settlement of Brooklyn. It's safe/trendy/gentrified, filled with the old brownstones that would make you thinkof Woody Allen's Manhattan.

If the Brooklyn Bridge goes to Brooklyn and the Manhattan Bridge goes to Manhattan, then why, oh why, doesn't the Holland Tunnel go to ...?
