My understanding is that Keith is not nearly as fucked up as people would like to think. And though the same is probably true for Shane, I'm thinking that Mr. MacGowan may have shortened his life more than Mr. Richards. So, it all comes down to the age difference and the margin. My money is on Shane. The human body is an amazing machine and Shane is no fool. A Lazy sod, but not a fool. Keith will outlive most of the Stones.

Too tired to jape. Shit THAT'S a worry.... stressing. Gotta record again tomorrow on The CD That Would Not Fecking Die, AND with someone whom I hold in certain degree (90-Celsius) of awe, so it's hard to keep my mind on my normal level of lunatic output. Sorry. :?

Well ... Just release it. That seems to kill most CDs. :)

Ouch. Sorry - that was harsh.

Maybe now's a good time to begin my subliminal marketing campaign...

About a year ago I was in a nice little video store and bought a used copy of Troy (Iliad based story) on VHS for a couple bucks. I hadn't heard anything about the film but I have always been a fan of glory-oriented/Homeric adventure stories and tales. Since then I've given it a couple viewings, but have yet to solidify an opinion on it. Regardless, there was one quote of Achilles' from the film I immediately thought was wonderful:

"I'll tell you a secret. Something they don't teach you in your temple. The Gods envy us. They envy us because we're mortal, because any moment might be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we're doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again."

I am not a religious person, but have always enjoyed this ideology (if you will) of being part of something unexplainable and incomprehensible - that is, life in a violent world, full of the possibility and potential of peace and enjoyment, in which, you can die at any time.
I should say this quote (out of context) applies more to those expecting death from a sword, musket ball or bullet, and not from a bodily organ deteriorated from overuse (drink and drug) but it is applicable, alas. No point to this post really but I guess some expect a death that reflects their lifestyle. I do not, necessarily, think that is the case with Shane. But with the little knowledge I have of how he views the world and life in it, I think he knows his death will suit him well........he'll end up where he wants, even if he doesn't have a choice.

Hey Cougar, now there's some food for thought... nicely put. :) 8)
I shall have to, shall we say, mull this over. I think, at heart, that most folks would like their demise to have a sense of reciprocity to their lives.

It has been hypothesised and reconstructed from contemporary sources that the ancient Celts (and to a great degree their modern ethnocultural descendants) saw Old Man Death as...'the middle of a long life..." for example, and much has been made of the symbolism of Doorways representing Birth and Death as being one.
Or something. Om mani padme hum. Om money padme poket - Oim a Pogayana Paddhist.
