Does anyone remember LIR? I went to their CD release party in Dublin around October 1993 (Whelan's?). Earlier that day they performed at Tower Records on Grafton Street.

Another band I remember seeing was Dublin's "SOMETHING HAPPENS".
I happened to be staggering into a small club in the Rutgers University area of New Jersey (USA) one night only to find them setting up for a show. This was around 1992. They were okay, however most people there that night had no clue who they were. I thought the singer tried to be too much like Bono.

Anybody hear from any of them?

LIR played a benefit night in Vicar Street with Damo Dempsey and a few others, a month or so ago. I think I remember seeing pictures of Shane at the gig, I may have been dreaming though.



Dispute with their record company as far as I know.

Eire OG- i think nobody mentioned them- Their songs are great and brave! (my favourite one is dedicated to Joe mcDonnell, one of the hungerstrikers dead in 1981)

I remember hearing a couple of their singles, one of which was called Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello (Petrol). I thought were ok, but also thought they were one of many bands who were a bit too U2-like. I think one of them is a well known radio presenter in Ireland now- Tom Dunne. Another band I remember from that time was An Emotional Fish. They got a lot of criticism but I quite liked some of their stuff- Celebrate and Blue were great singles. They are now recording as "Jerry Fish and The Mud Bug Club" and I think they sound great. They made a really good album a couple of years back.

I was actually just on iTunes the other day, trying to find any songs from Something Happens - I have a couple of albums on cassette, but have never been able to find their stuff on CD or in digital format. They did what I thought was an amusing cover of a Madonna hit ("Borderline") at one point, too. Also from that same era (more or less?), The Stunning and the Saddlesore Cowboys were two big Galway bands. Always thought the Stunning was pretty boring and overrated when I saw them play in Galway, but I started liking them a bit more once I moved back home.

Certainly the Chieftains. If you have not heard it 'Long Black Veil' is a tremedous album. It features Tom Jones, Mick Jagger, Sinead and others. Beautiful, timeless music.

I'm also a huge Waterboys fan. Of course The Waterboys are basically Mike Scott and whoever he's playing with at the time. And yes I know he's Scottish but nonetheless he's a fabulous and talented musician.
