Sarcasm doesn't seem to be a strong point with forum folk.

Shane was in a wheelchair for a while when he broke his leg or something simular about four years ago. He walks fine now, most of the time.

The crutches! The evil invention. Actually he broke his leg over them. Run on crutches for plane, fell and aggravated injury which put him into wheelchair for a while... You see? crutches... And isn't it better to settle comfortably in a cozy wheelchair then to hang yourself on treacherous crutches? You are in steady position, with hands free for a glass and a fag and there is still a place for a pretty wench upon your knee.
Surely wheelchair is much much cooler...

*Snort!* AND wheelchairs allow ye to attach a thingy, ye know.. a whiskey bottle and a drip-feed to yer mouth. VERRY important fer travelling comfort. BUT, ye can never be TOO safe, so I'd advise ye , in the good faith of yer fathers, to ALWAYS carry a spare pair o' crutches for the purposes of setting about the persons of persons too bleedin' daft to get out of ones way whilst perambulating IN ones wheelychayer.

And one can use crutches to reach something, which would normally be out of range, without leaving old haunt (aka wheelchair). Or as a remote when real remote has been lost somewhere. Or as a driving/connecting unit between universal relocator (UR, aka wheelchair) and some passing vehicle if UR's operator has run out of fuel...

Zackly! In FACT, they should retrofit ALL wheelchairs with crutches immediately if not sooner.

...and to hit round the knees the hordes of inconsiderate people who think that because you're in a wheelchair they can walk all over you, push in front of you, block your way...
Another tip, by the way: don't use one of those collapsible crutches for doing any of this stuff. Because it will surely collapse on you.
