I scouted out the Irish pub that will be opening across from the 9:30 Club soon. The name is Duffy's Irish Restuarant, and their website is here:

http://www.duffysdc.com/

This being DC, naturally most of the information on the site relates to the restaurant's ongoing struggle with various NIMBY groups who apparently prefer that the building remain vacant for all eternity...the parties are currently in mediation, but hopefully Duffy's will have their liquor license soon. Glancing in through the windows, it looks like they've got everything they need to open, though the floors and walls need work (chairs and tables are piled up in the middle of the main room). The site states that they will be opening in the Spring...no idea what that means, though.

I dropped an e-mail of support to the DC gov't, per the instructions on the "we need your help" page of the site, and will send an e-mail straight to the owner tomorrow to inquire about the possibility of having a meet-up there before the March shows. Even if they aren't officially open for business, as long as they've got a liquor license, we should be able to work something out. I'll post an update when I know more.

Cheers,
-Ed

Hi. Late reply, but I'll be at the Thursday show and am trying like hell to get into the Friday show. (I had no clue it'd sell out so quickly!) I've got my fingers crossed for a photo pass too. If I get one, I'll post plenty of pics here for you all to enjoy. :-) Look for the tall (6'4"), somewhat lanky fellow with glasses, a single-colored shirt (probably red or black), jeans, and short brown hair.

EDIT: Barring miscommunication at the club, it looks like I did score a photo pass! My karma must be good too because I've also scored a pass and ticket to the Friday show! :D I'm so excited! These are going to be some great shows.

See you in a couple of weeks!

Anyone from DC know what's up with Duffy's yet?

Or do we need to arrange another place?

This place is a second option maybe?

http://www.stetsonsdc.com/

They don't open until 4:30 (sigh) but doors to 930 club are at 8 so there would be time for a few pints is anyone wants to go?

I've never been to Stetson's but seems good that they have food and beer. But no Pogues on the Juke. Ouch.

Ya know... the juke isn't completely lame. I could listen to Patsy Cline all night. Lets mark this one as a possibility and keep looking. The area is scetchy, and I really haven't done much there except go to shows, but I'm going to do some research. I'll let you all know what I find and I recommend everyone else do the same. I'm up for a meet up on the 9th, but on the 10th I'm with my wife and her friends so I'm not sure if I can slide away for a booz-up with Medusans. How lame am I? Well, maybe just one or two. After nine or ten drinks and you know it just might degenerate into serious drinking!

Sounds good. I've been to a bunch of bars with in walking from the 930, but the problem is exactly that, they're bars and don't open until 8pm.

Bars don't open till 8 in DC????

I see "Repeal Of The Licensing Laws" has not yet done its utmost.

That does sound rather "late"... but in any case Philip, I think they're talking about DC. I've been to bars in Boston and they were certainly open "very" early. :)

It is very sad I agree. Guess DC isn't a 11am drinking town. You think they would be with the state of our country. :D Maybe that's the problem...they should be.

Now wait a minute here people.... I refuse to believe bars are not open until; 8PM in D.C. That cannot be true.

Bars within a 10-20 minute walk though.

You'd think next to Congressional offices they'd put a 24hour pub. Maybe they have...

There are loads of bars in DC that open up before 8pm. Cafe St. Ex - about 1/2 mile from the 930 - is open at 11am. I know that myself and all my nutjob friends will most likely be drinking at Asylum (http://www.asylumdc.com) before the show. It's a bit of a hike to the show and the distance might require a cab ride but it's much cheaper than any bar near the club any they've got good inexpensive food. Plus they've got Stiff Little Fingers and the Pogues on the jukebox.

My wife and I attended an ABC Board protest hearing re: Duffy's this Wednesday...the owner managed to reach an agreement with the ANC and the protesting neighbor, so they should be all set to open soon...I doubt that they'll be ready for the public by March 9, though if they've got their license by then, they might be willing to host a semi-private group of Pogues fans. I didn't get a chance to ask at the hearing, but I will check next week.

Other options in the area include the Saloon (which I like) and Velvet Lounge, which, while not great, does feature $2 cans of Schlitz, which are perfect for those who spent all their money on tickets.

Any Naty Boh?  Hey great about the Irish place. Please do check in. I'm thinking a small party could easily be set up. Hell, we could bring our own beer. (and entertainment???? :? )
