The Popes 'official' site seems to have expired. Much like the band themselves methinks?

Yes it is. In the early days The Popes were fantastic, but in recent times, well, a bit disappointing to say the least.

I'm not sorry the website's offline though. The guestbook there had just turned into a vile slanging match.

Trying to get through a boring day in the office today with If I Should Fall on my headphones!

So bloody lucky to get to listen to music whilst your having a boring day in the office. I just have to sit here and suffer.

Yeah but the slanging match was sometimes a little funny.

I'm sorry about the popes, I really am.

The guestbook still pops up here, oddly. A recent entry from Paul McGuinness (or purporting to be from him) says that he wants to set the record straight and The Popes will be back in 2006. He says to check out what they're doing at the moment but doesn't elaborate what that might be.

I also feel a bit sorry for them. I have enjoyed their shows in the early years, but things are probably best the way they are now, so I suppose it's time for them to move on as well.

Yes, the guestbook seems to be hosted elsewhere and still works:

i seen this just today....maybe they'll come back again. I also think we have'nt seen the last of the popes...the pogues dont seem to play as many shows as shane does with the popes. Too bad they got shite in recent years....hopefully they'll come back with a full band again.
