For those interested just seen Gogol Bordello are playing at least 2 gigs in March -

5th March - Concorde 2, Brighton
9th March - Corporation. Sheffield

Have to get some tix for Brighton gig now

did you guys ever see that Guy Richie film starring Brad Pitt? well his character was described as a "pikey". but from all i have read, pikeys are similar to travellers --looked down upon society for not conforming to standard set of rules to live by. oh..seems so romantic ....i want to run off with a raggle taggle gypsy man now...

Los Lobos is another great band that would be perfect as a supportact christmas tour 2006.
Los Lobos really like the Pogues and they have met each other before at som festival (Isn't it so Mr C.?)

Agree about The Oysterband, Levellers, Fairport etc though. Theres a horrible "worthy" vibe to those bands music that puts me right off them. Not to mention all those gits in ethnic trousers who populate their gigs.

How about Public Enemy opening for The Pogues? Now that would be an interesting bill.

Some years ago I saw a U2 gig when Public Enemy, Kraftwerk and Big Audio Dynamite were also in the bill. It was an anti Sellafield gig. Public Enemy put on a great show. I am afraid I cannot say the same about Kraftwerk because at this stage I had realised I was sat next to Johnny Marr and was drunkenly pestering him about how much I loved The Smiths.

i think my band should support das pogues.we supported Martyn Bennets band in the Celtic Connections fest.Pretty much consists of drummers and lots of cowbell.we make lots of noise very well.
But then again...maaaaaybe not. :wink:

I'd love to see a re-formed Slits support.

Thank you Dave, You don't go to see your favourite bands and then judge the night on who supported them. I'd like some of DKM stuff but aren't really my cup of tea.

To me its like something extra. If I'm going to be getting something extra, then maybe it would be nice to get something I like. If you're lucky you get something you REALLY like. But ultimately, the support band is not going to be what gets you out to a Pogues show, at least here in the US. The tickets in our small venues sold out in like a few hours for every show (some much less) and we don't even know who, if anyone, will open all but one show.

I'm going on the Sunday...and I wouldn't mind seeing The Walkmen. They seem loud and up for it. I have been meaning to pick up the record that has "the rat" on it just for that song. This will give me an excuse.
