Most Overrated Pogues Song!!!!

Post Sat Jan 14, 2006 7:55 am

Sorry but I'm bored, no disrespect to any of the pogues, as thier most overrated is still ten times better then most other bands' bests. But Im sick of hearing how Fairytale Of new York is thier masterpiece, or thier greatest song or whatever. It's a great song, dont get me wrong, but hardly in my opinion thier absolute best! In fact, that tends to be the only song i skip when I listen to IISFFGWG. Partaially cause Im not into listening to xmas songs during the year...but other pogues songs that mention xmas dont get skipped (Thousands are Sailing, Dark Streets of London... etc.) So yeah, just a pointless rant to kill some time, but I hardly feel Fairytale is the best somng the pogues ever composed, performed, or whatever. Blasphemy on my part? Probably :)

Yup, I would totally agree on this. Fairytale of NY wouldn´t be even in my top fifty Pogues songs probably :-)

I dislike the song...particulary because it doesn´t sound great to me, far from that actually, but a lot more, because of the overrating.

+I think that Sally MacLennane and Streams of Whiskey weren´t THAT great (although certainly not bad).

Only one song that I skip on cds but love on live recordings and at gigs: Fiesta.

That's a real live song

I wouldn't say FONY is overrated - it is great obviously, and I think its underrated if anything - its brilliant!

I'm not a massive fan of Haunted, but other than that all the pogues songs are just bloody awesome...

I think A Rainy Night In Soho is deffo the most overated. Its got some good lyrics but I dont like it that much.

I'm not crazy about Summer in Siam - just a personal thing, and although the sentiment and imagery in Rainy Night in Soho is lovely, the tune is kind of repetitive and could maybe have used some sort of interlude or chorus to break it up. <this coming from someone whose greatest musical ablity is listening :P >

I know the Pogues didnt write it,but Dirty Old Town.
Maybe cause am gettin abit sick of it now,it tends to be played most out of all Pogues songs. And people only tend to know that Dirty Old Town,Irish Rover or FONY when they think of the Pogues. So bit bored of it.

I think Bohemiam Rhapsody is totally overatted but that is not a Pogues song so it most probably does not count.

And anything by George Michael.

Elton John
Dire Straits

Most of the shite that was clogging up the charts when Pogueing was in vogue first time round in fact.

There is no such thing as an over rated Pogues song.Ever noticed how many of us are wise enough to pay attention??You can't be over rated if you're under appreciated.Case closed.
