Mr Chevron is the Pogues Box set still coming out or is that a fading dream? I know with the tour and everything it won't be happening anytime soon, I was just curious if you knew an "about when" date.

We're working on it, honest. Warners have been so busy with our catalogue that they felt the time was not yet right. Our next priority is to get the catalogue properly reissued in the USA and Canada as it has been in the EC and Japan.

What exactly is this box set? Just a box with all the remastered records, or a compilation with b-sides, demos, etc? Or what is it?

BTW, Mr Chevron, I hope you guys will come to Scandinavia (Sweden

) sometime soon - it would be fantastic to get to see you live!

The Pogues Treasure Chest (working title) is a mix of unreleased studio tracks and demos and rare stuff that is not offically available any more. Highlight is said to be a studio take of 'Do You Beleive In Magic' duet between Shane and Cait from '86. Check

Almost certainly it's release will coincide with a tour to maximise publicity, so Xmas 2006 might be the next possible slot :shock:

Can you please tell us what are the possibilites of the box-set including:

Live b-sides (Sally MacLennane; A Pair Of Brown Eyes; The Sick Bed Of Cuchulainn; Maggie May; etc.)?

Extended mixes (If I Should Fall From Grace With God; Yeah,Yeah,Yeah,Yeah,Yeah; Whiskey In The Jar; etc.)?

Compilation & soundtrack appearances (Haunted; Junk Theme; Hot Dogs With Everything; Miss Otis Regrets/Just One of Those Things; Dirty Old Town (Live); The Good, The Bad And The Ugly; Got A Lot O'Livin' To Do; etc.)?

Basically, what are the chances of the box containing all the previously released material that didn't get added to the remastered editions (Or in the case of The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, strangely left off the expanded Straight to Hell edition: Straight to Hell Returns)?

We made a conscious decision to leave the live b sides off the remasters as they are from a different reality - not the recording studio. As for the box set, there is so much material to consider that I doubt the extended mixes are likely to make the cut. Subject to licensing agreements, the MCA, Chrysalis, NME etc recordings are more likely fodder, though not, probably, The Good The Bad And The Ugly.

I can totally appreciate the live b-sides not being included on the remastered editions, as it makes the re-issues themeatically consistent. So I'm certainly not complainin'; Yet, I would love to see this material still collected in digitally remastered form anyhow.

I'm curious ... Is this some kinda licensing minefield that prevents the Pogues' rendition of The Good The Bad And The Ugly from being re-issued, or does the group simply just despise this recording? I noted somewhere that Staright to Hell Returns was described as "re-jigged by Phil Chevron and Daniel Wood (of Pray For Rain)"; Would you mind telling why the track seems to have become a bit of Pogues apocrypha, or would you rather not say?

Hey Mr. Chevron,

How come the remastered Straight To Hell excluded the Pogues Rollicking version of The Good the Bad and The Ugly and Pray For Rain's excellant Money Guns and Coffee? (not that I'm complaining cause I really dig the remastered cd... especially the track that sounds kinda like the demo version of Wake of The Medusa... and Bolero is amazing too!

Can't answer for Pray For Rain, but the short answer to why we left out TGTBTU is that we didn't like it and it disrupted the flow of the soundtrack album. Licensing Rights for film use had apparently lapsed too, but that could probably have been overcome.

TGTB&TU is of course preserved - with visuals! - on the DVD release of Straight to Hell though I don't know if that's on the recent BFI version that has had all the movie critics in raptures about Cox's lost classic.

Amazing what difference an imprimatur like British Film Institute can make, eh?

I was at the CurzonSoho recently seeing a brazillian film and they were also showing Straight To Hell. Dick Rude was there for a Q&A. and the Strummer people were selling tshirts and badges. All sorts of Straight To Hell stuff happening. Unfortunately I was there to see the brazillian film ...cm

What about the epic techno song that shane did taht is mentioned in the liner notes of Peace And Love? Any chance this track will ever see the light of day? (or is it even worth hearing...)
