Shane's vocal standards.

I don't understand why Shane wants to sing when he won't attempt to fix his voice up a tad. I don't think it's impossible for him to remedy some of the damage. Teeth, etc.

His voice is OK these days, but used to be much better.

His voice has got worst. The first 3 Pogue album he sounds great. On his solo albums he does sound very drunk!

Maybe Shane has just worked hard over the years to give his voice the right feel and character. ;)

"If you’re born with a beautiful voice, leave it alone. Don’t smoke, don’t drink. Well... drink. There’s nothing wrong with drinking. But don’t smoke, if you’re born with a beautiful voice, cause it will only break it up. But if you’re born with a voice just good enough to carry a tune, you know, a good voice, then smoking will give it depth, and a rasp, and give it a lived-in feel. (...) If you’re born with a voice that’s like... muddy water, right, a bit muddy, then make it muddier. Accentuate the features of your voice that give it its character." (A Drink With Shane MacGowan)

He's sounding lousy these days. I guess deep down I'm hoping for a real come back from him.

I doubt he can write songs anymore too.

I think Shane has got a great punky / irish kind of voice that would sound great with a band that plays punky / irish tunes.....can anyone think of a band that fits that criteria ?
No wonder Fony never made No 1 ...do you think if it had been Shane Ward doing the vocals it would have made it ?

So sorry...a touch of sarcasm there...

shanes vocals are obviously nowhere as good as they once where and he does have his good days and bad, but i dont think he, or his legions of fans give a shit whether he "gets better" or not

Well, I think that most of the deterioration of his vocals is because of his teeth and mumbling. I get that way too, so I know how it is about mumbling. I think that's probably the biggest think with his voice.

As for alcohol, is it really damaging to the vocal chords or is this just a myth? Smoking, I can see that causing harm, but drinking?
