What are the chances of any NEW pogues material

How, exactly, would a "Pogues Unplugged" be substantially different than the Pogues we know and love?

In If I should Fall from Grace With God, the DVD documentary, Nick Cave is interviewed and they are discussing the unravelling of the Pogues. He refers to Shane's (and I said "others" above because it possibly wasn't just Shane) condition and how several shows degenerated into (I think)Rolling Stones covers, etc... I believe Shane was aware of teh final product, so lets not discuss Mr. Cave's accuracy... If Shane wanted it cut, I'm sure it would have been.

From that and other readings I gathered that at some point as Shane was on the way out, the Pogues played crowd pleasers to get through the tour.

Yeah it's not true! But it's not your mistake. It's Nick Cave's. Cherry-picking facts to back up his fading impressions of the band's demise. A cover of Honky Tonk Woman was released as a b-side in '88, the year of If I Should Fall, 3 years before Shane left and arguably their peak year. (The Stones are Spider's fav all time band and he sang it) It was occasionally played at encores and went down really well. But no gigs ever degenerated into the band playing covers to please the crowd. The Pogues were (are!) a big band. Right up to the end people went to their concerts wanting to hear pogues songs, these are the crowd pleasers! not the cover versions (Honky Tonk, My Girl, Darklands, White Light White Heat ..) which were occasionally thrown into the set for fun.

I agree with you Eric V and Nick Cave doesn't seem to know anything about the Pogues
Don't forget Maggie May
They have always mixed covers and traditional stuff with their own songs
So the idea of an album filled with a mix of traditional songs, covers and their own material is not a suspect idea at all
It's a really coooool idea and you must remember as I said before It's up to the Pogues to take the decision if they want to do a new album.
Tchad Blake, Rick Rubin or Tom Waits would be the perfect producer of the album

Thanks for that "guest". Your clear articulation of the facts leads me to believe that you actually know what you are talking about. I stand corrected. Though I believe Nick was an "insider" on the scene at the time, and had his own impressions, maybe his story was somehow tainted by the production of the documentary.
