If there is ever going to be a new studio album from the band then its surely got to be soon.

The Pogues profile is as high now as its been in many a long year.
Top ten single , appearances on prime time tv , virtual sell out tour at home and one to come in USA....if its gonna be its gotta be now.

You only have to look at the thousands of young people who came to the last tour to realise that the music the band produce knows no generational boundries.I found it simply staggering.

Did you read Spider's answer about this suggestion of a new album : "I'd rather stick pins in my eyes " ... hope it's just a joke ...

If the pogues were to release a brand new album i say it could do very well.

It would influence a lot of people especially youngesters who have been going to see the on tour or who have heard their albums.

If the greatest songwriters are there and the greatest music from the pogues is there they would have a sure fire hit of an album.

It is up to them if they want to record together again after so long but in my opinion it would be great to see a band like the pogues kick the arses of some of the other crap bands or artists that are about and it could prove their staying power.

Actually, he was answering a statement that the Pogues should take their solo material and do it together as the Pogues. I was surprised at the response as well, but the way I see it he is simply saying that the solo work is an effort undertaken for a different purpose. Spider is obviously proud of the material he has produced for his record, and probably would rather produce it on his terms rather than by committee. At least that's my take... I read a few posts from him today and got the impression that he's a bit miffed at some of the banter.

New Album & Possible Producer

Post Thu Dec 29, 2005 11:00 am

We all want a new album from the Pogues
I have a wish that the Boys get together and do a "Cover-album" with songs they like and songs they think they can do in a "Pogue-way"
What songs do you want them to cover?
I would love to hear them do Hot Asphalt, Finnegans Wake, Strange Fruit, My Way, Like a Virgin, Knowing Me Knowing You, When I'm Up I Can't get Down, Oxford Girl, Batsheeba Smiles, Teddy Bear, Folsom Prison Blues and so on .............
That would be cool 8)
Maybe they will release a double CD one with covers and one with new material.
What do you think mr Chevron and the thinwhistleplayerintheband
Wouldn't it be nice with 2 albums :)
Cheerrss!!
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior and shove you in the ground. But you'll stick your head back out and shout "We'll have another round"

Forget the covers! There's too much talent in the band for that. A dozen originals! They could do it in their sleep if they chose.

the whistle player elaborated:

"OK i wouldn't really rather stick pins in my eyes but i can see what making a new album would involve, and i fear it might be a case of too many chefs and not enough ingredients. I love playing the shows and doing the old stuff and i'm really looking forward to America but you've got to keep your feet on the ground, haven't you?"

Asking alot?
It's much easier to do an album these days then it was in the 80's
You can do a great sounding album in the kitchen if you like

If they chose to NOT record any new material, probably the easiest way is to do a coveralbum.
The Boys could do a fantastic coveralbum if they like and it will not take so much time either

So to the question what songs would we love to hear on that coveralbum?

Better if they do a coveralbum 8)
If that works the next thing would be an album with new songs :)

they could even release it internet download only thro this site .. This would be less work than marketing a 'proper' album and having to answer endless questions from journalists about 'So can none of you write songs any more?' which would happen.

No. No cover album. :x No duets with the Wolftones, Enya, Ronnie, etc... :x Just the Pogues... new material. (Maybe just a new version of a traditional song, but not a whole album of them) If not, then we'll all love the existing Pogues songs and they can play when and where they want to. Yes, playing a few other cities in the US would be great for our brethren on the West coast and the Midwest, and yes there are thousands in "the rest of Europe" who would love for the Pogues to come to town some day, but come on... I'd much rather see them do whatever makes them happy and musically productive and original... if that means putting out solo stuff or playing a collaborative role with some other acts then fine... we could all use some expansion of our horizons.

So you don't want a new album from the band
That's OK it's your opinion, my opinion is that they could do a fantastic coveralbum with some favourite songs and mix it with some new songs and that would be really nice and a smart thing to do from the band
