I just heard that Shane has died. I am gutted and can't believe it is true. I knew he was sick but still hate to see this. It feels like a huge piece of my high school years has been ripped out. Rest easy Shane. You did your part in making many of us better people with your music.

No doubt. It's great to see so many familiar names. I hate the circumstances.

In about 1986, my mate lent me RS& the Lash. 'Its basically Irish folk music, but it's really good' he told me. By the end of Sick bed', a large part of my life had suddenly fallen into place. For the first time in my life, it seemed very important to me that my mum was Irish - so I was Irish. It was Shane's articulation of the Anglo-Irish experience that caused me to fullyrecognise my identity. By pure chance (luck!) I met Shane in about 88 as he got out of a taxi outside Kings Cross tube station. Despite me not being able to help myself from being the stupid star-struck 18yr old that I was, he was so happy to chat and give me and my mates the time of day. RIP Shane.

Rest in paradise, Mr. MacGowan.
Condolences to his widow, family and friends.

I saw his portrait on Chris Stein's stories and didn't want to click.

Thank you for the music, live and canned.

It's a sad day. The world got a bit poorer today. This evening will be spent listening to Shanes music with a glass or two of Pogues whiskey.
Well Phillip, Darryl, Sinead, Luke Kelly are waiting on the stage upstairs. It's going to be a blast of a gig there tonight.
Rest in Peace Shane.

Dammit.

Here's to Shane, may he sing forever. What a legend.

RIP Shane
Thanks for everything
I have no words to explain how important The Pogues have been in my life. So many shows, so many friends I have met, so many good memories.

To all the fantastic Medusans we met over the years, thank you all for the great nights we had in far flung pubs and concert halls 8)

Can*t remember my password since it's been such a long time that I*ve been active here. My real username is "in_the_morning"

Usually don*t cry when well-known people pass away, even when there's a huge affection or personal link. Despite the sadness and loss there's a sort of "unreal" distance. This time it's different though.

Rest in Peace Shane, and thank you for everything! Your legend lives on.
