A place to discuss largely non-Pogues related things.

Rocky Road To Dublin. Dubliners. Never mind Pogue Copycat Mahone version, Dubliners did it first

Traditional songs and tunes only survive if they are passed on to the next generation by bands that appeal to the next generation.

I'm traveling over to London to see Mary Wallopers in the Town & Country Club. I hope I'll be the oldest there and it's full of the next generation.

Song: The Internal Locus
Artist: BT

Music to space out to. Like letting your cat walk across your sequencer.

I couldn't agree more Colm. I'll be seeing The Mary Wallopers for the second time in Manchester on Friday. They are bringing songs that I love to a whole new generation... or two! And they are really good musicians, are very funny and have an attitude that I love.

At the Band on the Wall in December, we bumped into old people like me who we used to see at gigs in the 70's and 80's from the likes of De Danaan, The Chieftains, Sullivan's Private Stock, The Dubliners, Clanadd, etc. Not to mention lots of fans of The Pogues. We also saw kids we know who are in their late teens - early twenties who have found their Irish roots through the Wallopers.

They are absolutely fucking brilliant. You should've come to Manchester, I can guarantee you wouldn't have been the oldest present! :D

Oh. And.

I Hear It Through The Grapevine - Ella Fitzgerald.

We saw them last night at the Ritz in Manchester. They were superb. A proper, up for it crowd, with Irish Mancunians and visitors from Ireland. Some of the fellas from Cork had brought their best drinking heads. The Wallopers had a good few tunes I hadn't seen them do before. A bloody great night out.

Ren. Yes indeed. Striking stuff.

Song: Lullaby of London
Artist: June Tabor & The Oyster Band

I am surprised, every time DJ Shuffle plays it, how lifeless and dull this cover is. It's like a harmless up-tempo song you'd expect to hear in a coffee house or an elevator. You'll tap you toe along to it without thinking about it, and you'll immediately forget about it as soon as the song is done. In fact ... it has just finished playing and I already can't remember it.

I still remain utterly charmed by this duo.
