Well, had his schizophrenia been treated properly he might be here today.

Seems to me he fought to stay here. An accidental OD when self medicating your mental illness is not suicide.

An untreated and abused schizophrenic inmate trying to commit suicide in prison is also not the same thing.

It's complicated and sad as hell but I wouldn't think his family believes he's lucky to be gone. Seems like he tried like hell in his own way.

One of his sons is/was on that VH1? show about kids from rap dynasty families trying to make it, isn't he?

Talk about a tough act to follow.

And how are you so sure he had schizophrenia? In this insane world, so many people who are too honest or just won't fit in for whatever reason are given labels by the psychiatric profession and others to discredit them and try to better keep them in line. RZA called him a scientist and prophet and I think he knew stuff the authorities didn't want exposed, so I believed him when he always said he was being followed and tracked by the FBI. He made me think of what Joseph Heller said: "Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not after you." Anyway, it is really sad for his family and friends who miss him most, but he's another one who was too good for this world and is much better off free from it. This place is only a temporary dream world for testing souls and I'm sure he passed with flying colors. The ones who hounded and harassed him are in a shitload of trouble, however.

He’s on record referring to the meds he was not taking while in prison.

I don’t know what the meds were.
One could take a wild guess.

I’m a fan but the existing video record paints a murkier picture than one of a prophet come to Earth.

I definitely believe people working on their mental health live between two planes. It’s like deep mourning, I’d imagine.
When you’re grieving you’re not fully present and part of you is flashing back to memories. It’s definitely a physical place.

You can see Mr. Jones was suffering. It appears to be similar to others who work on their mental health. Many self medicate.

Being a visionary prophet come to Earth is so much jazzier though.

*No disrespect to his family if that is what they know to be true or believe.

Just because he was suffering and taking meds to try to feel better doesn't mean he was schizophrenic or that his problem was in his mind and not outside of it. If you're too sane and honest in this crazy world, people are going to make you suffer for it. The French poet/playwright Antonin Artaud explained the predicament of folks like ODB in comments like these:

“This is why a tainted society has invented psychiatry to defend itself against the investigations of certain superior intellects whose faculties of divination would be troublesome.
No, van Gogh was not mad, but his paintings were bursts of Greek fire, atomic bombs, whose angle of vision would have been capable of seriously upsetting the spectral conformity of the bourgeoisie."

“So society has strangled in its asylums all those it wanted to get rid of or protect itself from, because they refused to become its accomplices in certain great nastiness.”

Our tainted society needed to protect itself from his expounding on outbursts like "Wu Tang is for the children!" Because this world really is meant to sift out the good young-thinking ones who won't participate in the pointless war games of the outdated evil power structure.

And RZA isn't someone who'd say anything about him just because it sounded "jazzier" so STFU about that. Your disclaimer doesn't change the fact that you said it.

In case it needs clarifying, I find it beyond irritating when someone adds "no offense" or "no disrespect" after the disrespect is already contained right there in their thoughts or words or actions themselves. Such a hypocritical copout, all too common in this world.

No disrespect to his family is what I meant and what I said.

You, on the other hand, place your own personal feelings onto everything and everyone.

You said he was better off dead.

You say that about everybody.

Don’t try and turn that shit around on me, fool.

Okay, to recap:

RZA, who is ODB's cousin and thus family (and who knew him far better than you do) said that he was a scientist and prophet.
You say that because ODB took medications he must have known he had a mental illness (which you assumed to be schizophrenia) which implies in this world that there was something wrong with him, that he was "crazy" and not actually being persecuted by outside forces as he claimed, so you dismiss RZA, assuming he only said ODB was a prophet because it sounded "jazzier" (i.e. cooler).

The FBI has a long history of persecuting African Americans and other people of color who threaten the status quo like the Black Panthers and countless others. The FOIA release of ODB's FBI file shows that he really was being followed by the FBI and not just being paranoid and schizophrenic.

So like I said, just fucking shut up and stop diagnosing people you don't know with mental illness. You're probably more mentally ill than ODB was. After all, as Krishnamurti said, "It's no measure of health to be well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society." And this society is so far beyond sick.

And again, adding "no disrespect" to something you've said or done that's already obviously disrespectful doesn't mean shit. It's always a gutless copout (unless you're fully aware of that and saying it as part of a sarcastic joke).

And no, it's not just my feelings, it's the sad objective truth that good honest people are better off gone from this pathetic world full of sadistic assholes and gutless hypocrites who make people suffer for not going along with them. And you're wrong, I don't say it about people I can't stand who'll finally get what they deserve after they've wasted their lives being gutless and stupid here. I have absolute faith in the workings of God and the greater universe. It's not at all a religious faith but it is spiritual, and go ahead and call me a fool for it. What goes around will come around, and then some...

I was gonna guess D.C. due to the marble building.
Can’t say that I’ve seen that Staples before.
I always go to the 99c store on Broadway and buy East Coast potato chips.
Classy!
I love Philadelphia. It’s such a cool place.

I was waiting around the chained in Electric Factory parking lot at the second, non-blizzardy Pogues concert I attended there when a slightly deranged gentleman approached and cursed us all out. He was wearing a powder blue San Diego Chargers Jersey. :)

Found a pile of money on the ground once in the fancy area on the way to Northern Station. Dick Cheney boards up around there.

Have you seen pictures of the Austin protester with his pet chicken on his shoulder? Legend.

Anyways...
