Decent covers of FToNY?

Hi all long time no chat...

So I just forced myself to listen to the Ed Sheeran cover and it got me wondering... what good covers are there?

This is a decent version in Irish

And I've heard Damo do a good rendition too.

Overall it seems like one of those songs that can't be touched. Heard acceptable versions in pubs but without the piano it's relegated to a guitar or bass player trying to mimic the melody.

There is a good version on You Tube by Canadian band The Mahones, i don't think its available on any format, not entirely Canadian, i was informed the other day that The Mahones main man is Irish, the female part is sung by the excellent Danhmait Doyle, originally from Labrador, where my Mees are from, though i reside in Cape Breton. While we are on the subject of Fairytale covers, yep,Sheeran's version is terrible, apparently there's a live version by Coldplay,is there nothing sacred anymore?

By sheer accident, heard a group called the Punch Brother s on CBS this morning. They did a real nice version.

The Punch Brothers feature mandolin whizz kid Chris Thile,i saw them in Cambridge a few years back, great live, even though some of the chin stroking folkies gave 'em the thumps down.
