Bill Johnson, 55

Gold Medal winning skier. A bit of a brash, wild man in his day. Got hurt real bad in a skiing accident, never fully recovered-had been victim of a number of strokes.

It has finally happened. Actor Abe Vigoda is dead at the age of 94.

Best known for his role as one of Don Corleone's capos "Tessio" in the Godfather and as Det. Fish in the TV show Barney Miller.
His death has been reported since the 80's and was a recurring joke on many shows including Letterman.

Tessio being led away to his death in the Godfather:

And the original Lead Singer of Jefferson Airplane aka not Grace Slick has joined him.

Signe Toly Anderson: Former Jefferson Airplane Singer Dies at Age 74, Bassist Says

Of note, to those who like this type of obscure trivia, the drummer of the Airplane Spencer Dryden, died 2005, was the nephew of Charlie Chaplin!!

Kinda sweet they passed on the same day. While not as famous as Grace Slick, she had a great voice (contralto, if you know what that means) (i don't). You can hear her final gig with the band (she left to raise a family) on their "Live At the Fillmore East" album.

"One sweet lady has passed on. I imagine that she and Paul woke up in heaven and said 'Hey what are you doing here? Let's start a band' and no sooner then said Spencer was there joining in!," Marty Balin wrote on Facebook, referring to the band's late drummer Spencer Dryden. "

Maybe not that well known around these parts, but Paul Murphy, fez-wearing sometime lead singer of Birmingham folk-punk band The Destroyers, died last Thursday. Cracking frontman of a cracking live band. And reputedly he shared a house with Lemmy for a while in the 60s. Reunited. RIP.

Shall never forget their live performance of this track. And eldest daughter, standing next to me at the time, leaning over and saying, "What the hell's going on here?"

Reported today that this was another case of CTE. It will be an interesting future for the NFL, NHL and Boxing (MMA, UFC) as this issue keeps growing.

There has been quite a lot of discussion about CTE here in Wales, as rugby union players are getting bigger and more muscular, and collisions are become more intense, what are they going to be like in 20 yeas. They were looking for ex players (and boxers) to do some research into post playing head trauma. RIP Ken Stabler.

Maurice White, drummer, singer, and founder of "Earth Wind & Fire", has died in his sleep from the effects of Parkinson's disease at his home in Los Angeles, California on February 3, 2016 at the age of 74.

Here he is in 2004, aged 63, still rockin' hard:
