Farewell to Nova Scotia

Post Sun Feb 22, 2004 6:27 pm

Is "FareWell to Nova Scoti" a Pogues song? I came across it on kazaa, but there seem to be different versions of it, one "by" the pogues, but really I can't take some random kazaa users word for it. So if any one knows anything about this song please post it here, cause it's a great song so I'd love to know a bit about it.

Thanks

I've heard that song too...it's really great but not played or recorded by the Pogues.

As far as I know, it’s a traditional song. A nice version by Paddy Reilly can be downloaded here.

Farewell to Nova Scotia is a traditional folk song, believed to be written around the time of World War One. The apolgues recorded a fantastic version of this song, and it appeared on their album, New Folk

Back in those heady, early days of file sharing, I was amazed at the number of tracks i downloaded that were mis-labeled The Pogues, it included everything from punk bands to Irish Rovers to... anything irish-ish played with a modicum of gusto was likely. It's a long way from nowadays when an inserted cd cues itself up to web-based track info from any one of a number of sources.

Lordy, i spent a long time looking for the bsides on LimeWire. "Squid out of Water" was particularly elusive, and ended up being the last one. And then like a couple months later everything was (wonderfully) remastered and released on CD!
