Heard him on CBC radio this morning, that whole prosecutor's office should be taken out & shot.

Interesting statistic I heard a while back that apparently the much-ballyhooed rates of false reporting for rape are actually no different than rates of false reporting for any other crime, but there's no crime other than rape where it is generally assumed the victim is lying, and/or it'll never be successfully prosecuted anyway so why bother?

This one hits home for me, because Missoula is where I live, UM is my alma mater, and I am a big football (alright I know where I am --American football) fan. I have had many happy days in Grizzly stadium. And I probably should just quit talking about it on message boards alltogether -- (see page 145 of the book for details). Ironically I always sort of thought that the small scale of this brand of college football somehow made it more pure. But then the troubles for the team started.

It really is inexplicable. Missoula is a tolerant and diverse town; there is a history of feminists in the West, and especially in this town. The best analogy for this town is that it is about like a Eugene or Boulder, but maybe not as outlandish as Berkeley. I can't understand how we could have such callous public servants. But I have decided this town is kind of getting what it deserves. The powers that be are all for the Griz winning at all costs and are not willing to face up to the problems we have. The University has done well facing the problems, but as noted the county government is a mess. And the population mostly still thinks that most rape allegations are false. I do hope some good comes out of the book.

The author is, apparently, heading to Missoula in a week or two for a speaking event, so that should be interesting...

Former Burnley Football Club Chairman Barry Kilby has penned a short story to raise funds in support of prostate cancer initiatives.
The director turned author has written “As Good As Some” with proceeds going towards his recently launched fund “The Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal”, created to provide support to sufferers and save local lives.
The book is available exclusively in the Amazon Kindle store for just £1.99 and all proceeds go to the appeal.

"....We're raising £200 to fund the Barry Kilby Prostate Cancer Appeal because I want to help local men beat prostate cancer...."

Just a short story , but a " good cause to get behind."

Sure enough he was here. He seemed a bit agitated but he got a very warm welcome. He was rightfully righteous at times with his anger, and not afraid to let a few f-bombs fly when he felt it was appropriate. Overall it was pretty much the same talking points he was using with other interviews, like the one with the CBC that you pointed me to. It was interesting to get a bit of story about how he came to possess transcripts of secret University tribunals -- which he didn't tell details of, but it was an impressive bit of fact gathering. There was no incident until a guy came to the stage at the end.

http://www.seattletimes.com/nation-worl ... ula-rapes/

The guy at the end seemed crazy. I know now that he is a local lawyer and might be a fine member of our city, but he certainly didn't comport himself well. Maybe he just wanted to come off that way to get on the news, I don't know. As they were winding down he barged to the front and confronted the people on the stage with -- if not yelling, it was loud talking, though I couldn't hear what he was saying. At this point Krakauer started responding to him, because he was ready for the fight all night long, but when Krakauer who was miked up started replying to the guy who wasn't, people wanted to hear what was going on, so someone gave the guy a mic, and was told to state his question. He acted like it was a cross examination so he didn't have one question, but was trying to give various examples of statements Krakauer had given (replete with lawyerly citations) that he thought would trip up Krakauer. But in the end the reason lawyers get to cross examine people is only because those people get held in contempt of court otherwise, so after several blathering citations, Krakauer simply took the man's mic and stepped off the stage, presumably to explain to the guy that turning the place into a mob was not what he was envisioning for the evening. Those explanations did involve Krakauer's fingers in the man's chest.

At that point the guy left flailing his arms about and yelling Krakauer is a liar well into the parking lot, and on into the night, as far as I saw. Good times for a Wednesday night in Missoula. :D

Well there's a trip down memory lane.

I really enjoyed TMCM back in the 90s. Eventually Shannon got off in the weeds and became a whole lot of Not Fun. Haven't checked up on him in ages.

BTAF is still entertaining. Fun fact: Stephen works as an artist for the same company (sort of - a wholly owned subsidiary of the same company, really) that I do.

If you don't mind the Sexy in your online comics reading you should check out OGLAF. "If you're going to fap to only one comic today, it should be OGLAF." That aside (yes, the Sex is very much front and center for OGLAF) the comic can actually have some good chuckles to it.

Yeah. My niece and I were talking about those comics last night. Reminds me of taking my two nieces to Comic-Con, when they were young and it wasn't Hollywood bullshit. TMCM and Bob's creators were always nice to them, making me more of a fan.

Well that was hilarious.

Did you ever read "Gonad The Barbarian"? Just about the funniest thing I read back in the day, tragically only the 1st issue ever happened. This Oglaf reminds me (although much much dirtier).

Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs! My Adventures in The Alice Cooper Group By Dennis Dunaway

Dennis Dunaway was bass player in the original AC and the co-progenitor of the Alice Cooper image. He's also a fabulous bass player and talented songwriter ("Black Juju" was one of his). Unfortunately Mr. Dunaway is not a talented memoirist, and that's even with a co-writer credit (music journalist Chris Hodenfield). The voice is a little too 70s-rock dude-ish, and some parts that don't matter (groupie's tits) get too much attention, while other parts (how the frog bass came to be, or even his bass playing in general, for example) get little/none.

Still, he's got a good memory, so if you like this sort of thing, it's worth reading. But sadly, for the casual reader, Alice's book about golf is better.
