Lorelei 7"

Post Fri Oct 03, 2014 8:55 pm

Just won an ebay auction for a Island records release of Lorelei with Honky Tonk Women as b-side from Canada. Catalog number Island 97109.
Does anyone here from that side of the atlantic have any info on it?

Scans of the record and front sleeve.

Huh, I've never seen one. Although it wouldn't be the first unique Canadian release (Poguetry was released on CD here the first time around) (and included the Costello-favoured "oboe mix" of Rainy Night to boot).

Huh, "Honkey Tonk...." on the b-side, which I was about to say was odd because it came out later, in 1992. But I just checked my cd single copy and see that it had a 1988 copyright and was produced by Steve Lillywhite.

Looks legit to me. There is no mentioning of it being a promo, but it could still be a promo release.

Wow. Very nice.

Would you mind if I used your images (with credits) to add the record to 45cat.com (on which I am a moderator)? or you could add it yourself and get the credit :-)

Incidentally the cat no also fits with Island Canada's sequence so it looks legit from that angle too.

Not convinced that's the right sleeve though. (Stand to be corrected).

Any idea what kind of sleeve that's right? Go ahead and use the images on 45cat.com. I use that website myself now and then to get info.

Great, cheers.

The only reason I queried the sleeve (which might be right, I am certainly no expert on Canadian releases) is that if you look at the Canadian Island discography on 45cat, the sleeve matches earlier labels. Though this is not proof of anything at all, really, just gut feeling...

I'll add it to the site later, many thanks again. You will find me on there under exactly the same username as here.

Im not sure that I'm adding anything here, but I do have the Canadian Island release of the Thousands/Fairytale 45 (ISL-8809-2) which is dated from 1988 and is a promo copy with the same sleeve as above. So at least it looks standard to me.
