Thetford Forest Roll Call

Post Mon Jun 02, 2014 8:38 am

Who's going to see the Pogues in a forest?

No idea how to even attempt to arrange meet-ups for this, as it's in the middle of nowhere. Though I understand the 42nd tree on the left is supposed to be good.
Likes the warm feeling but is tired of all the dehydration.

Sadly, not me. In some state of bewilderment I signed up for the London to Brighton bike ride the following day, so the amusements around the 42nd tree are not for me. I think it should be great fun to see the Pogues in a pastoral setting.
Looking at the response to your post, however, it does not look all that good overall, does it? I've been to Thetford to look at a not very exciting Tom Paine statue but Wikipedia tells me the town also had the first black mayor in England, in 1904, Dr Allan Glaisyer Minns, which seems pretty impressive.

And, of course, I hope you stay away from that tree that haunted Terry Woods:

And I stared at the tree that had spoken to me
Not a body was there I could see

The voice I had heard not another word said
As the hair on the head stood on me
And I said an "Our Father" as I peddled much faster
Away from that ghost haunted tree

For weeks and weeks after with nerves a disaster
Nowhere near that road would I go
And from dusk through the night I would shake with the fright
Of the tree that had haunted me so

So maybe it's just me, the hazardettes, The Pogues and 20,000 trees. What could possibly go wrong?

Anyway, the 42nd tree on the left reputedly has Guinness on tap and a jukebox.

Theford does indeed have a bit of a radical tinge to its history, which is somewhat surprising for Suffolk. Though the gig venue is actually nearer to Brandon than to Thetford. I've been to Brandon a few times, but couldn't tell you much about it.
