I remember that night vividly. Me and the guys were downtown on the sauce and I said "I had to go home. The Pogues are on SNL and I want to see it live." In the first song they sang it was obvious Shane was tanked (so what). Then in the Weekend Update segment, Dennis Miller made a crack about it. In for their second song they sand "Body of and American". It was classic.

I also have "White City" which, I believe, was performed on the same show.
(and for some reason, though you can't see it hare,a sd the logo is hidden by the "Youtube" logo, it seems this was broadcast later on Comedy Central)

i'm surprised to learn that this was the second song they did that evening. not that they were ever uncomfortably tense, but you can almost see them loosen their neckties, relax, and have some fun. that's about the point where the magic really oozes, and you can feel it in your blood.

one of the biggest things about music that, sadly, goes mostly unnoticed now, is sheer talent. these guys are amazing. the musicianship of every single one of them.

so yessir, thanks again for uploading and spreading the gospel.

remember what the crack was? i doubt it was scripted...and i've never been a very big fan of his, but seen him enough to know improv is not his forte'

i imagine it to be pretty groanworthy. when a person's hair, alone, makes you hate them... does he really have to go and make it that much harder on himself. he never thinks of me, and politely saves me the trouble of pissing on his grave. pretty selfish.

That's a great video, the 85 concert. And I just love the way that some of the song captions are entirely wrong... :)
