Songs you hope they play in December

Post Sun Sep 29, 2013 6:01 am

The inevitable thread now...

Me, I especially hope for the ones on Poguetry In Motion, which wouldn't be surprising for them considering it came out right after Rum, Sodomy... so Rainy Night, London Girl, Body of an American, Planxty Noel Hill.

Besides that, I'll just be happy to be there.

Okay, I guess everyone else will just be happy enough to hear the album, and I can't blame them for that, but I'll add a few more that I think would be fun to hear...

Whiskey You're the Devil
Broad Majestic Shannon
Thousands with Philip's lyrics intact (or even not)
Shanne Bradley
Maidrin Rua
Irish Rover
Poor Paddy
I think Philip mentioned trying out The Travelling People from the JLTSITE.. box, and that would be amazing.
I'm sure that Fairytale will happen, and I so hope that Cait can be there for it this time.

I always hope to hear Turkish Song of The Damned but they haven't played it for years and nobody other than Philip can quite get those Irish triple time notes at the end. :?

Although it's not a Pogues song I would love to hear them play Faithful Departed as a tribute to Philip.

Transmetropolitan. And Young Ned.

But, to be honest, I'm so excited about the full play through RS&L that I'll be happy with that plus any few added extras. Though, as someone's already mentioned, Freeborn Man Of The Travelling People would be a real treat.

I had that same thought the other day. I love that song and I think it would suit the Pogues well. I was also thinking I'd love to hear Rake at the Gates of Hell.

Ive been studying form and here's my prediction of how this epic match will play out......bear with me......

On previous tours they have played about 16 songs then a break and back for two encores of 3 songs each. So i reckon they'll want to finish the RS&TL album then have the break and back for two encores. The album is 12 songs so i think they'll play 4 or 5 songs to warm us up, then into Sickbed and finish the main set with Waltzing. Body of an American in the 1st encore and Philip joining the band on stage for Thousands Are Sailing starting the 2nd encore 8) 8) :D

Here's my set (wish) list

London Girl
IISFFGWG
Broad Majestic Shannon
Streams

Sickbed
Old Main Drag
Man YDME
Wildcats
Brown Eyes
Sally Mac
Dirty Old Town
Jesse James
Navigator
Billy's Bones
Gentleman Soldier
Waltzing

Bottle or Body (i can't decide)
Soho
Irish Rover

Thousands
Fairytale
Fiesta

Any suggestions..........?

Nice job Father

I guess because I had the cassette version, you would have to include Pistol for Paddy Garcia and as I mentioned elsewhere, it used to open shows back when they toured to support RSL.
So that needs to kick it off. Move London Girl down the list-maybe after Waltzing play the four from the EP/extended version-Body, Soho, London Girl, and Planxty Noel Hill.

Though tough, based on your criteria, maybe Bottle, Irish Rover get dropped.

Nice wish list, Fr McGreer, and I especially like the idea for Thousands of Sailors.

If I could tweak it a little, I'd be disappointed (and surprised) if they didn't play Body. I'd also be surprised if they didn't open the set with Streams, though a starting Pistol would be fun. And personally I'd be happy to swap London Girl for Dark Streets, or Turkey Song, or Bottle, or Young Ned.

And given the late run that Star is making in the current game <http://www.pogues.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16684&p=215837#p215837> it'd be a shame if it didn't get an airing.

Darn it, I'll be happy enough with anything. And / or everything.

I reckon this will be fairly close.

But, on past form Shane likes to take a break or two, and all of the above (apart from instrumentals, MYDE and Sailing) he usually sings. So, maybe the likes of Tuesday Morning, Ned, and Star might make an appearance?

Good suggestions but surely they couldn't drop 1000's, FONY and Fiesta and no way Soho. Also they have to cater for the casual fans (not us geeks) and they would also expect to hear Irish Rover. That's 5 of the 6 encore tracks.

So give the band an extra 50 quid each to play late like a good wedding band and we'll all be happy :)

Shane gets a break during Jesse James also.

Copy and edit my set list make your changes and come Dec we'll see who wins the geeks prize

I´m sure (and I hope) they will play Repeal of the Licensing Laws. It´s one of my favourite songs to hear live. And it´s always great to see James running with the accordion :D

Gotta agree with Firehazard that Streams will start the show. It has every time I have seen them except for once in San Francisco when everybody in the band except for James started another song (don't recall which one at the moment as I have just come back from the pubs in Dublin), they had to stop and start the whole thing over. James seemed a little embarrassed after the show but i told him it was one of those moments that would be very memorable to the fans who have seen many shows, which was the case for me.
