I don't need any proofs to distance myself from the statement, do I? It's kinda the other party who needs them. That's how it works in our "normal" world. ;)

By the way, the topic of this thread has already been thoroughly discussed here.

If I'm not mistaken, I read an interview where Shane said he wouldn't likely drink more than one or two drinks if people weren't constantly buying him drinks. I mean, the man goes into a pub to relax and drink one or two pints; next thing you know, he's got fans buying him drinks. It would be slightly rude to just leave the drinks undrank, so he drinks them to be polite.

This might not be the most accurate perspective, but that's the basic idea I remember from the interview.
“An’ this is the last of Brummy,” he said, leaning on his spade and looking away over the tops of the ragged gums on the distant range.

i think this forum is used to discuss the music of the pogues and the band members and not used to pry about thier personal lives and what they do outside the music, thats just my humble opinion on the subject. really who cares if shane drinks too much it doesn't make him any less of person

I read an interview where Shane answered the question. What was his answer?
"Because I'm thirsty". There you go.

Is alcohol the only drink available?

Shane was being clever, and if you wanted to analyze it, he drinks alcohol because he enjoys it. I'm sure you like things, too. ;)

Yeah , I guess it's cool for Shane to like alcohol because Shane actually looks cool doing but i think everyone else should be banned from drinking.

I'd bet money that Shane doesn't give a crap if he looks cool drinking.

Legislated morality has never worked. Being a US citizen I you should look to the eighteenth and twenty-first ammendments to the US Consitution of examples of precisely that.

I think the knee-jerk reaction of "there ought to be a law" is not a wise one.

Whatever.

It's been illegal for a long time. So what? What does that have to do with Shane drinking? Has anyone here advocated drinking and driving? Has Shane ever been accused of drinking and driving? This is a complete non-sequiter.

I enjoy it as well, though I see no reason to see myself on the same level as Shane. I have the Shane M. Story on DVD. In that vein, I too see no reason to discuss anyone's bad habits on this forum unless he/she themselves are offering it up. I don't think Shane is. Also, I think some of the other Pogues have been in rehab.... some of us might be better off there as well. These are PERSONAL issues. If you are 15-25 years old, maybe it isn't best to dab in such mature areas.

For all else with drinking issues, maybe we should form a sub-forum of Irish folk/punk disposition????
