There surely is a lot of love on this board, and deservedly so. It proves that the connection established between the purveyors of heartfelt music and their audience is genuine. Thanks for answering our questions, and engaging with us here regularly, for talking to us when we meet you on the street (no matter how well on we are), and of course, thanks for the excellent music, we are indebted to your conviction. We love you Phil, and our thoughts are with you.

Health is uncertain, but of one thing you can be sure. Your music is abso-fucking-lutely immortal. "Thousands" will be sung as long as men have throats.

And the uncountable kindnesses you have shown us - particularly those of us nutty enough to think nothing of getting on a plane for a show - will also be long, long remembered.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.! There's clearly life in the old dog yet and we wish you plenty, plenty more.

Very, very best wishes Mr C,

CM

Dear Mr Chevron,

It is not easy to find the right words to say, as a reaction to this sad news, but I will try.

I hope from within the deepest of my heart, that you will receive the best medical news so soon as possible.

I hope that the sun & the power in your heart will keep on fighting and shining, and that with the help of your family, friends, fans and ofcourse the doctors, you will keep fighting against this news, and that you will be the winner against this.

Wish you all the best a man can get, and remember ´´the support from everybody will make you the winner, and make you stronger than strong´´.

And off course all the best for the other Pogues guys, for who this news is also sadly.

Kind regards, Raymond

I love that you are lovin' the love.
And I don't want no grave
Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

Dear Phil,
I have spent the last 24 hrs fondly recalling one of the most most vivid/vague evenings of my life. It was spent in the company of yourself, several of your bandmates and one of my best friends, in a club called Georges(??), in Kings Cross, Sydney. We had just been at the second of two "secret club" shows at "The Venue" in the suburb of Dee Why. We had managed to smuggle ourselves into the sound check of the first show, and were treated to renditions of White City and Fairytale of New York, featuring a female who, I think, was your van driver, during that Australian tour. The welcome after the first show (when we met Shane!) from the management was less than favourable, although to be fair, they did their best to compensate the following evening, by inviting us for a drink or two in the company of The Pogues! They say you should never meet your heroes. That depends who the heroes are. When they are as cordial, generous and interesting as mine were that night/morning, the memories are indelible.
Thank you very much for that, and for your contribution to the music, the quality of which can still stop me in my tracks, 25 years after my first listen.
Peace and Love,
Dan

Hey, Phil, I'm very sad to hear about your illness. I've been a huge fan of the Pogues for several years now. Your songs have blasted from my speakers many a time; I promise you that they will continue to blast. I recall hearing for the first time "Thousands Are Sailing" (one of my favorite songs), the lyrics of which are just so beautifully haunting. I am in awe of your powers of poetry.

I have seen The Pogues perform in NYC once in '09 and thrice in '11. At the St. Paddy's Day show in '11, I lost a lens of my glasses and I was dropped on my head after a few seconds of crowd-surfing, but it was totally worth it to see you guys live, singing along to all the lovely verses.

It inspires me that you are still strumming in spite of the diagnosis. And we grateful fans "dance to the music, and we dance".

Thank you.

Best,
Vince

Philip,
Sorry to hear your cancer has returned. I'm gutted for you. There's lots of goodwill towards you in Pogueworld and far beyond. May it carry you through the testing road ahead of you.

You have been by our side through the trials and joys in our lives through your music. I can only hope that we can now pay it forward through the love, encouragement, respect, strength, and thankfulness we send your way to help you through this.

Godspeed.
