Philip- who's mixing/producing the live recording?

Paul Scully and his French assistant Manu are currently ensconsced in a studio in the suburbs of Paris. Apart from two small bass repairs and about two lines of tin whistle, the result will be what was heard on the night(s).

Mr. Chevron, thank you very much for the shows you delivered. It was fantastic to be there.
I will not forget my experience and your music at the Olympia!

Any chance you will put in the cd/dvd tracks from both the shows?

Yes, we made decisions on that last Thursday in Paris. It was tricky, as the sound and atmosphere were livelier on the first night but the band was tighter on the second. As a general rule, we picked the performance with the best vocal.

Hi Phil,

I was at both shows in Paris and had a blast. Amazing shows. How do you feel these new recordings measure up to Brixton 2001?
I thought both the band and Shane sounded exceptionally clear and strong. The French crowd really surprised me, they were wild!

Cheers.

In the sense that the band has gotten better and better through the years, these shows advance from Brixton and the other 2001 shows which, lest we forget, were conceived strictly as a one-off reunion.

Mr. Chevron,

is there any difference (language- or otherwise) between the now available limited edition from the French amazon store and the limited edition that (hopefully) will be available at UK or German amazon store in the coming days / weeks? Probably a stupid question as I suspect the answer might be "no", but I just want to be sure before I order it from the French store, because I must have this special edition of the Dvd :-P Listening to Live at Brixton 2001 at this very moment and I'm still amazed at how fresh and gorgeous it sounds (after listening to it for about five billion times) - it just never gets old. I can't say that for many bands apart from the Pogues, Johnny Cash and a few others. Anyway, cheers and thanks for the music!

The final item released on November 12 will be identical worldwide.

Great! I look forward to listening/watching the result of your decisions (can't wait) :D . Not sure, though, if I can tell which tracks from Tuesday and which from Wednesday

Thank you Mr Chevron

Superb shows.

What was the story behind them Mr C? Paris - a surprise. You'd built up no live audience there in the last decade (didn't need to), and it's not one of your obvious London Irish / Boston Irish / NY Irish etc heartlands

Right from the start, the French found common cause with The Pogues, a unique bond that exists nowhere else in the world. Gallic? Alcoholic? Romantic? Who the heck knows. "Dirty Old Town" is an anthem there. That said, there is no discernible Irish diaspora in Japan and we're quite popular there too. Poguetry seems to be a genuinely universal pulse.

But the real answer to Pourquoi Paris? is that they asked us. Or specifically, Pogues fan Lionel Grosheny at Polydor Paris asked us, co-promoted the show and put the whole package together. It's true that we had not played Paris in 20 years but we all considered that more of a plus than a minus.
