I love that there are artists (Alice Cooper, David Bowie) appearing on both this thread & the "excruciating covers" one as well.

And speaking of Nick Cave:

There are lots of good Tom Waits ones, most notably Small Change and Mule Variations, but I'd have to go with this one as my favorite:

Oh good grief. I'd forgotten that album. It took a lot of turns on my parents' record player back in the day...

Think David Bowie also had a Decca The World Of lp.I hated that at the time but looking at it now it really does look good.

There were loads of those Decca "World of..." LPs. Though we had several, I don't think we ever had the Bowie one in our house, but you're right, it's a damn fine cover, in either of its versions.
There's a list of them here: http://rateyourmusic.com/list/harlou123/the_world_of_____series__decca_records

For me, as well as the old parental radiogram, the Val Doonican one evokes the 60s wallpaper and kitchen lino. And a lifetime's love/hate relationship with Paddy McGinty's Goat (as it were).

This is the LP cover that instantly comes to mind when I think of The Dead Milkmen...
