Smokin' Joe Frazier, 67.

One of the true greats from a time when boxing was interesting. RIP

I still have vivid memories of watching "The Fight of the Century", Ali's first professional loss to Smokin' Joe in 1971. "The Rumble in the Jungle" and "The Thrilla in Manila" added to what has to be the greatest trilogy in history. RIP

Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

Isn't it amazing that that for most of the 20th Century the Heavyweight Champion of the world was one of the most recoginizable people on the planet?
Now boxing is practically irrelevant- I doubt anyone can even name the champ. Far cry from my fond memory of sitting at the bar in the Irish Catskills (East Durham, NY) in 1976, pounding ginger ales (I was 13), listening to Dickie McManus and the Irish Revolution, while watching the US Boxing Team win a ton of Gold Medals at the Montreal Olympics (Sugar Ray Leonard, the Spinks brothers).

One of my favourite singers. I've been listening to The Mystery of Love is Greater Than the Mystery of Death again yesterday and today. A friend summed it up when she said JL had the kind of voice that would stop you in your tracks and make you look back.

An honourable man too. Who, in some ways, was the beginning of the end of apartheid in South Africa. RIP.

John Neville, British-born Canadian actor of the stage & screen has died at 86. While best known for the title role in Baron Munchausen, or "The Well-Manicured Man" in The X-Files, most of his career was spent on stage (& behind it, as artistic director of several Canadian theatres).

Gary Speed. A sad loss for the world of football, and of course his family. Mental illness is a terrible thing, look after yourselves folks!
