Rake at the Gates of Hell

I did a sculpture infulenced by this song called "Judgement Dogs: Last Chance at the Gates of Hell". It got some expose last year and has made it into another show opening next week. Not thant many people get it though...whatever.

Is there a photo of it anywhere, Kathleen?

I think I sent one out before. I'll dig one up and post it again. Its all about how dogs are better judgements of ones character than either god or people.

I have recordings done by both The Pogues (on the Straight to Hell soundtrack) and The Popes.

We first recorded it for the BBC in 1986 and then for the Straight To Hell soundtrack in 1987. I can't say I've ever heard the Pope's version. Presumably this would be JP2, not Benedict?

You've not missed much

I'm quite partial to the Popes and their work with Shane and I do like their version of King Of The Bop. I can understand the 'want' for Shane to rework Pogues tunes with the Popes, but on some of the more complex tunes, it's not going to work.

Belvis, seek out the Straight To Hell Returns CD. It features Rake At the Gates of Hell, plus all the other atmospheric instrumentals that the Pogues did for the film, also the original country version of If I Should Fall From Grace With God

On the first question, I've no idea, it's quite possible.

I have two versions of the song....One from the Sid and Nancy soundtrack and a slower "country" version that may have been the one used in the actual movie..the slow one is pretty cool. I thought it would make an appearance in the box set along with the slow version of Fall From Grace (the version in the box set is similar but a little faster)...

Its a great song. One of my favourites at the moment.I have just beeen playing it its a great riff and the instrumental chord progression really goes ,(isnt it similar to NW3 and Mother Mo Chroi , I might be worng )
I just got the box set and i am slowly working through it . I avent listened to cisk 4 and 5 yet i am savouring it!
NW3 is a gem and the version of Rake on here is too. Its got great enegy , better than the other 2 ive got. I always thought it sounded brilliant at the end of the film Straight to Hell. It seems faster on there than the soundtrack.
I surprised this song never made it onto an album. Thought it wpould have fitted good on IISFFGWG:D

Listening to the box set recently and more specifically Rake At The Gates Of Hell. I'm fairly certain I hear a certain Mr P Chevron on backing vox quite prominently in the mix. Is this you Mr C? Or am I hearing things? I know Shane has the songwriting credit for the track but I always heard a significant input from yourself in it's style... am I way off the mark?
